Thoughts on the framework of a Niklla Vucevic trade?

First of all I understand that pat probably limes his team again, so I'm not expecting any big moves. That being said, I feel like I've been warming up to the idea of a potential vucevic trade, most likely with a framework similar to this post, built around moving duncan to get salaries to match.

I love duncan but the reality is we have pretty much half of our salary cap tied up between duncan tyler and terry, three players who have overlapping skillsets on offense, are defensive liabilities, and can't share the floor together. Not to mention Duncan's contract had continued to age poorly even as he has improved as a player, as say a player like grayson allen who does what duncan does but even better, recently got extended for cheaper than we extended duncan a few years ago.

With a potential vucevic trade, we could get duncan off our books and then unlock that salary for another player who could actually start and share the floor with Tyler and Terry. Vuc could start day one as a center to allow bam to start playing the 4, while ware who is more of a project type player takes time to develop. I know vuc isn't a flashy player, but he's still pretty much a walking double double, and a player spo could definitely utilize given our lack of size recently.

This would give us a starting 5 of Tyler Terry Jimmy Bam and Vuc, with j rich burks jaime jovic and ware behind them all respectivley, with love pelle and haywood as additional rotation pieces, which honestly given our limited space and assets seems lime about the best roster we could field right now.

The biggest issue I could see with vucevic is that his 3 pt shooting has trended down recently and he probably need to be able to stretch the floor a fair ammount to start next to bam, but a few years ago he was shooting 40% on over 6 shots a game, so the 3pt shooting potential is there.

He would also fit perfectly timeline wise, allowing bam to play the 4 with a serviceable big during the end of the jimmy era, and when his contract is up in 2 years, ware should be 100% ready to start next to bam as our 5 of the future.

In terms of the trade framework specifically (obvioisly happening in october when Bryant would be eligible to trade), vuc's value is at an all time low and chicago looks like they're starting to rebuild, so we could probably get him for dirt cheap by just using duncan and a throw in like thomas bryant to match salary, and maybe a second rounder. Not to mention doing that would open up the cap space to convert a player like keshad johnson to a standard contract right now while staying under the second apron, which would then also open up another two way spot.

The more I think about it the more I'm sold on how this could help our team and overall roster construction, but what do you guys think? Would a vuc trade for Duncan make sense?

Vucevic is absolutely washed, you’d be doing Chicago a huge favor taking him on

Horrible trade. Duncan’s shooting alone makes him a net positive asset – then we’re giving up a second for a guy most people are expecting Chicago to attach assets to get rid of if they want to get anything of positive value in return?

Why are you all this desperate to offload Duncan lmao we should collectively want to see him play more starter minutes instead of getting rid of him just for the fuck of it

I wouldn’t give up those pieces for this version of Vuc. Don’t hate his game, just don’t like the trade.
