How Josh Giddey could blossom with the Bulls

I spoke with the mods first before sharing this, and I thought this was a relevant topic due to taking a look at Josh Giddey's game. I recently made a video looking at Giddey's skills and my conclusion was this could be a nice opportunity for him. The Bulls also ran a lot of pick and roll, which he'll get to facilitate more of compared to OKC, and he should also help the team play a bit faster (I mentioned some stats regarding those in there). I was also interested to hear from Bulls fans what they thought Giddey could bring to the team, and if you think he could fit with the current pieces in place.

I love bulls fans. This is how every team should talk about acquisitions.

But obviously you’re wrong though lol.

I think Giddey is going to flourish as a facilitator here and should fit in well with the younger Bulls, but have questions about his scoring efficiency, and we all know he’s going to be a turnstile on defense

Still, I expect Giddey to drop a bunch of pretty dimes and rack up ~10 triple doubles this season on the way to a losing record and top 5 pick in next year’s draft for the Bulls.

  3. I think he’ll fit amazingly on offense, but will need to become competant on defense to become a winning player. With his size and bbiq i feel like he definitely could too. His current effort isn’t even bad either on defense. Increased pace will be very nice too since we have so many weapons in transition that were diminished last year because Demar naturally commands a somewhat slower pace.

He seems very much a player that Billy likes to work with too.

Some betting agencies have him at number 4 for the most improved player award. He will flourish with the ball back in his hands. Love to see him get more efficient with his shooting and work on his D, although he plays better D when the game slows down or picks up players in the post where he doesn’t have to rely on his lateral speed and can use his height to his advantage. Either way if they build the offence around his strengths this will be a fun young team to watch.

People are underestimating the value of the 3pt shot with Giddy’s size and ability to get in the lane that leaves Coby, Zach and P-Will available for uncontested 3’s

Let’s assume Ball returns in some form with Ayo and Smith that’s 6 players capable of shooting 40% from beyond the arch.

If this team buys into shooting 3’s at a high volume they’ll be better than expectations.

I don’t know much about him, but what I know let’s me think he is one of the “system” players, that’s not good enough to be a system in the NBA. A bit like demar. He raises your floor and caps your ceiling.

Could but I don’t see how he fits here in Chicago. He looks soft as hell 🙄🤷🏾‍♂️

  8. I just think a guard who isn’t athletic, can’t defend, and can’t shoot is going to have some issues. You almost have to try and build the team around those deficiencies. I hope he proves me wrong but I’m skeptical. OKC couldn’t even keep him on the floor during the playoffs and he’s going to be who we build our team around?

Not a bad analysis, but I noticed a lot of those pick and rolls were being defended strangely, given that Giddey is such a weak shooter (like that play where three guys had their eyes on him, a non-shooter, and let Dort cut to the basket) . Whether they switched or didn’t the guy who had Giddey after the pick was sticking too close to him. I don’t know why teams won’t just back off him so they can play the passing lane to the roll man more effectively while also making it harder for him to drive to the basket. The best pick and roll guys use their shooting threat to keep more defensive attention on them, thus giving the roll man more time and space. Giddey is not going to be able to do that. I wonder if that is because he was like the fourth option most of the time he was on the floor for OKC and so teams weren’t gameplanning for him. If so, then when he is the primary ballhandler on the Bulls I suspect they will have a better defensive approach for him.

Anyway, he will run the point more effectively than anyone we have had since Lonzo, and anything that gets decisionmaking out of Lavine’s hands is probably good for the offense. He should be finishing plays not handling the ball and trying to playmake.

I think Giddey will have good counting stats and the offense will be ok but not above average, and the defense will be atrocious (we are going to have Giddey, Coby, Lavine, and Vuc on the floor at the same time a lot. It is going to be a bloodbath).
