Is Giannis Antetokounmpo properly respected by the NBA media?

Justin and Camille discuss the latest ESPN surveys; who would you start a franchise with right now and who’s the best player in the league right now? Where did GIannis land on both of those and does that tell a larger story? Plus how the national media views the Bucks chances this upcoming season may surprise you. We dig into it on the latest Locked on Bucks

  1. The league hates that Giannis is his own man and does not answer to them. He chose to be loyal to a small market team. Dame likewise did the same. He went from one small market to another he likewise will receive the hate. The Bucks after failing 1st round series for obvious reasons will not matter. The Bucks will have to take their respect back. If any member on the team does not play with a chip on their shoulder is on the wrong team Even the Bucks off season pickups are being dismissed as though they are all scrubs. The league is acting as though the team has made no changes and is returning with the same squad. Doc should also have a chip on his shoulder. If I was the Bucks coach I would hammer that league disrepect message home constantly in practice and before ever game!

  2. Lebron was in almost every finals when he was in the same weak east giannis is in and giannis only made 2 finals. He's getting the exactly what he's deserves

  3. I LOVE IT! NBA media need to keep comming up with these lists, so GIannis can see more of them! The more of these he reads, the more likely he is to start the season in recking ball mode. As a Bucks fan, i ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS! (Btw, same goes for Dame)

  4. Fair or not, most NBA media don't view Giannis as a skilled all around offensive player. He's very productive but doesn't have much of a perimeter game or a game in the paint the way Jokic or Embiid do. His offense is almost exclusively in transition and at the rim. And that hurts him at a time when the league is so wildly offensively oriented, so perimeter oriented, and when there are so many players with crazy diverse offensive skill sets. Jokic, for example, is an absolute beast on the low block, shoots 66% in the paint on jump hooks and floaters, and shoots over 40% from 3 in his playoff career. Skills and offensive versatility are valued now above all else. Had Giannis started his career in 2000 he would have gotten more notoriety imo.

  5. Giannis has never got the respect he deserves. The larger media will always talk about his shooting but what I will never understand is, who cares? If a guy who “has no bag” (I don’t agree) can average 30 while a guy with the deepest bag in history averages mid-high 20’s then why does it matter? His defence is NEVER taken into account in these discussions for absolutely no reason, his leadership is NEVER taken into account for no reason. As a fan it has always frustrated me.

  6. Like Giannis, but I wish he would develop a mid-range jumpshot and learn to play with his back to the basket. He really has a nice turnaround jumper that he's never really developed. Doing these thing would help the overall offense.

  7. At this point, I wonder if Giannis would even pass Dirk in the media lists when he wins a second title…😅

  8. I love how Jason couldn't even take the Tatum is better then Giannis comment remotely serious. That's how big of a joke it was to put him ahead of Giannis.

Giannis has always been disrespected, overall, by the media. Because he doesn't fit into this nice little box they deem is needed to be successful in the NBA. Media crowns him back to back mvp? They immediately talk about Giannis leaving for a big market. Giannis resigns, doesn't win MVP, and then wins finals MVP, sticking it to the media narrative of small market teams can't keep superstars.

After doing that, now Giannis game is "boring". He's not "flashy" enough. He doesn't wow you with handles. He doesn't do double step back 3's in your face. He doesn't have the prettiest post game. Is he a center? Is he a power forward? Is he a point Guard? The answer is just "yes", and the nba media hates it. Is giannis clutch enough? Watch him late game. He's awesome on both ends. "But he doesn't take the final shot" – damn, how DARE a star on top of the world recognize a small limitation of his that's best for the team.

It also helps he's played next to Khris Middleton his whole career. And I don't care if the media doesn't pay attention, the ball don't lie: He's literally top 3 in the NBA in clutch shot making in the playoffs. Do you know how hard that is? If he was my teammate I would give him every damn shot in the final 5. Guy just makes impossible shots in impossible moments. That's why on that Khris Middleton Cycle meme, there is a point on the cycle where he "plays like Jordan". He earned that part of the meme because of what this guy does in the clutch every playoff game.

Giannis though is falling off on these lists, because people are forgetting how great he is. What national media won't admit, is they do not watch the Bucks play until the playoffs. And Giannis was absent last playoffs, and the one before he got hurt in the first game. They have FORGOTTEN how dominant GIannis is.

I see a lot of comments here saying "all giannis is great at is in transition", meaning even Bucks fans are selling Giannis short. If Bucks fans are doing that, the media will be even worse.
