Granger scored more in 2 different seasons than PG’s best season as a Pacer. He just missed one it factor that PG had sadly/somehow. Artest, Rose and Stojakovic (even though he was only on our team for 1/2 season sadly) all behind that I’d say…
The teams with Chuck there wasn't enough basketballs w.tisdale had to have the ball ,Clark Kellogg was going to be a great player but injured.
English to Denver for McGinnis was one of the Pacers worst trades ever. George wasn't what he'd once been, Alex became an all time Denver great, and the player who had been starting for us before the trade resented the demotion destroying team chemistry. I believe the trade was a factor in the Leonard's losing their jobs in the front office. An interesting note though is the man who engineered the trade for Denver was Donnie Walsh,
Man I forgot how good Granger’s numbers were. Injury definitely derailed that. As a Pacers fan since 1980 I’d say Granger despite being statically dominant did not have the impact the Chuck Person has in Pacers history. Him and Tinsdale were that start of folks taking us seriously. For sure the Person / Bird battles put the gold and blue on the NBA map for the first time long before Reggie even did. So I would say in terms of stats yes Granger but in terms of Impact you cannot list this category and not have Chuck Person in top 5. Almost the same goes for Jalen Rose – it’s easy to forget he was the best player statically in that Finals run. We were so grateful that worked out – but Person still feels he looks larger in Pacers lore. I guess Granger fits the assignment more – but just saying …
I don't remember how it ended, but Granger either set a record or was on his way to setting it for the number of consecutive years he increased his scoring average by 5 points,
First thought is Rodger Brown in a Championship year.
Slick said when it came to scoring Rodge took a back seat to nobody. Not even Jordon. The others…Artest, PG, Granger. Billy Knight. Rose just misses.
A comment about the Artest 2004-2005 season many Pacers fans will say including me – that the Malice in the Palace was our championship season. Talent wise it’s hard to deny. But when I watched the doc about it something was made clear. The maturity was not there on that team. Reggie has commented on it also. One reason he decided to retire was the professionalism was lacking – that team would have imploded somehow – because 82 games is a LONG season. Also Jamal Tisnley doesn’t get enough blame I think for slowly helping bring that team down between him whispering in Artests ear and the brawls he seems to always have been a key guy in shaping. Everyone knows a guy like that. Small dude who helps start stuff and gets everyone else in on it. Oh well. Numbers don’t show professionalism or perspective.
Lastly, Paul George’s best was his playoff run where he dunked on Lebron ) that’s what I remember vividly.
Otherwise Derrick McKey deserved one spot. He was such an anchor. Quietly dominant and consistent – nicely done overall.
Also congrats on getting married🎉
I think you nailed this list.
2014 PG was his best, 2013 was my favorite, but not at the same level.
Another positive for Artest that I didn’t hear mentioned, that team won 61 games! More than any Pacers team ever, including ABA.
And I know you aren’t doing ABA, but Roger Brown in 1970 finished 4th in ABA MVP, 2nd team all ABA, and then followed it up with a Payoffs MVP and putting up 53-13-6 and then 45-11-1 in the last two Pacers wins of the Finals as they won the championship.
Great series! I have been loving it
Tony, I have a question, and can't find an email for you (and I don't Twitter) so here it is:
Can players (like Tyrese and Pascal) offer money to players (like Myles next year) to help their team avoid luxury tax issues, while attacking to retain teammates (or attract new ones in the future).
i.e. could Tyrese and Pascal say "We will give you a couple million a year" to Myles, and draw up a contract with him? Or does any NBA rule prohibit them from gifting him money? Or (if so) donating money to his favorite charity in his name in large amounts?
Or could they volunteer to downgrade their contracts, to help ownership to avoid the luxury tax?
Basically, I'm curious what, if anything, the players under contract can do, to help ownership retain teammates in the future. What are the rules that might proscribe or allow these sorts of options?
Danny Granger 26 ppg season was the best season by a pacers small forward
