Hauser Island

Via @NBA_University on Twitter: One of the best things about this NBA year was watching guys size up Sam Hauser like he was BBQ chicken just to get swatted, throw up a brick, or turn the ball over

Boston's team defense notably does not sell out to help Sam when he's on an island, they know he's solid.

I love how he still gets targeted. He’s gonna have a monster year, spread out the minutes to him and Payton to get us thru the regular season. Watch them blossom.

Shhhhh don’t say a word. Let them keep testing him

I never worry about him in an iso possession. It’s always fun watching Hauser lineups because you know someone is going to try to iso him and is quickly reminded that Hauser is no joke on D.

Ik this is a hot take but I feel like he holds up better in isos against other wings better than anyone else on our team apart from JB

I’d like to officially nominate “Boogieman Sam” as his nickname.

He’s the nightmare of opponents’ dreams. Hitting threes, clamping your star player, boxing out your power forward. When they close their eyes at night they see the Boogieman, they see Sam Hauser himself.

I will say Hauser totally impressed me with his defense cuz he didn’t back down and wasn’t a total cone when he was picked on *A LOT* with the isos in the playoffs. He’s not some chump

Hauser is not a world beater or anything but he is *so* disciplined and he is taller/longer than you expect and it translates to forcing tough shots.

He’s not going to force a turnover or get a block unless the offensive player fucks up on their own. But he’s also not going to bite on a pump fake or a crossover so people can’t catch him out of position or draw easy fouls.

Instead he just stays between his man and the basket and once they’re committed to the shot he gets straight up to contest. And that’s enough.

I laugh like an evil villain any time someone starts iso-ing against him

I remember watching an away team broadcast talking about how Hauser is not known for his defense. He may not be known for defense, but they talked down his defense as being pretty bad. What do you expect from and away broadcast, though?

Still laughing about r/nba finding out Hauser is in fact a good defender during the finals, their collective reactions to him holding his own against Luka was literally

How long untill we see him in all defensive team?

  12. I have to admit, Hauser made a huge jump on defense. Hopefully our staff can coach up Scheierman on defense also.

I really wanna see more Hauser Jrue DWhite and the Jays lineups while KP is out and Al rests. Its like small ball but they aren’t really that small, and everyone can guard multiple positions. Call it medium ball.

  14. I remember thinking Hauser was gonna be by far our best shooter when he first joined but i never would’ve thought he’d be as good as he is on the defensive end. You can actually see his progression through games and it’s insanely impressive.
