*A top executive at Comcast Spectacor, which sorely wants to keep the Sixers as a partner at the South Philadelphia Sports Complex, was joined by an experienced Philadelphia developer at a meeting with the Washington Square West Civic Association on Aug. 26.*

*During the course of an hour, the two businessmen described plans to transform the Center City mall, where the Sixers intend to build, into a biomedical “Innovation Hub.” They shared renderings of how the completed project would look and offered specifics down to the intended color of the exterior walls, according to a person who was there.*

  2. Great, so there will be similar issues with local rents going up, but zero of the economic stimulation that a stadium would bring. I mean, I suppose the employees of this medical center would hit the local spots, but nothing like the traffic a stadium would bring to them.

The people super pissy about the plans to build the stadium there should be way more mad at this proposal.

This is a poor idea that doesn’t solve anything, this wouldn’t even make up for the lost revenue or tax dollars from the Sixers moving to another city/state

    Comcast is getting more desperate

Edit: Someone correct me if I’m wrong but Isn’t the Bellwether District supposed to have a heavy biomed focus too? Even less reason for this proposal by Comcast then if so

This is the “my girlfriend goes to a different school” of proposals

Can anyone explain what exactly a biomedical hub is? Don’t have an inquirer sub

If Sixers move to Jersey before Embiid gets a ring, then I will no longer be a fan.

LOL what a joke. It’s the Gallery with different shops!

  8. Sixers are not realistic to land there but it’s the bluff that needs to be played.

From Philly and live in Cleveland. Look to Cleveland for your answers (said no one ever … until me right now). Basketball stadium downtown, big success. Brings people in from the burbs to enjoy the bars and restaurants and spend their money in town. Brand new biomedical hub, total ghost town. Huge waste of money.
