Lanier was a quiet gentleman, but when he snapped, HE SNAPPED. He was respected and feared in the 70s (*and was the players’ union president in 1983 when the most important CBA was signed, bringing about a revenue-sharing salary cap to the league*).

This was the 70’s NBA lol. I think Jerry Sloan even told a story once when him and Norm Van Lier went into the stands to beat up a fan that threw something in their huddle, then they went back on the court and finished the game.

The kick in the original fight was surprising too. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an NBA player kick another one, unless you count Draymond Green stomping people

Did the announcer do boxing coverage as well? He took to calling play-by-play for the fight like a duck to water.

The fan must be drunk as fuck to fight Bob Lanier. Dude was one of the biggest, strongest, craziest players in the league. Lanier was feared throughout the 70s and the 80s.
A great player too. Third best center behind Kareem and Walton at that time. Probably had a case for the top 75 and definitely is very underrated.

For me, it’s the right play-by-play from the announcers that really reminds you that what you’re watching is from a different time. 🤣

The fan was ejected lol
No ejections?! The rules were different back then
Should be able to beat up fans now.
