The Death of Basketball by Jon Bois is incredible

In the dreary days of the NBA offseason, one of the things I do to pass time is dig up old grantland and sb nation nba articles. This one by Jon Bois is a particular favorite and if you have not had a chance to check it out, I highly recommend it.

This and the madden related stuff is some of the best sports articles ever

My absolute favorite sports article ever. The commentary he starts adding towards the end is just hilarious.

I wish he’d redo it again.

“LeBron James has elected to retire at 36. Given the diminishing talents across the NBA, his contributions will be irreplaceable, but he is doing what any man would do. Go play with your children, LeBron.”

    Ha!

Bennett on rookie season “I can contribute”

Bennett said that prior to the 2013 season, when the world was young. His rookie season was a disaster. We cackled, mocked him, and labeled him a bust. Today he enters the Hall of Fame, one of basketball’s last great warriors, raging against the darkness and fighting for all that was beautiful.

You did contribute, Anthony Bennett. You did contribute.

This is my favorite article of all time. Can’t believe it’s over a decade old

All is lost. All is lost.

His video on kickoffs galvanized the movement that led to the NFL changing to the dynamic kickoff. Nearly everything he brought up is part of the arguments used to eventually change it.

He probably wasn’t the very first to bring this up but I know this video got millions of eyes and ears tuned to the issue who’d never thought about it before.

This is long but so worth it. I laughed out loud numerous times. I think my favorite moment was Anthony Bennet ending up a first ballot hall of famer. The end times indeed.

The league’s desperation has risen to new, more worried heights, and there is no clearer evidence of this than the signing of Jeremy Pargo.

… His presence tells of panic.

    Ouch lol

    Fantastic read lol.

Interestingly in Doomsday NBA the Nuggets still won the 22/23 chip! And then later won one with KCP. Prophetic?

Of course the bobcats winning a championship would herald the end times. Reminds me of my all time fav Jordan brand commercial, which coincidentally also had the bobcats winning a chip. A lot of hypothetical faith in the bobcats in the early 2010s

2005-2010 was the peak of quirky indpendent hipsterish NBA content. FreeDarko, Wizznutzz, Straight Banging to name a few favorites.
