For weeks, we have been speculating what player the Knicks would add with their final roster spot. NY had obvious needs at the center position but unfortunately, couldn’t find any players they deemed necessary available to add. But in a shocking move, the Knicks added another guard to their roster, which is the last thing they need at this point. But as reports have indicated, NY is planning to make a major trade at the deadline and in order to make that move, the Knicks will need more assets. Signing a player like Shamet may help NY pull off a trade for an impactful center… Troy Mahabir breaks all of this down!

I agree that the Knicks are planning to make a move for a big and have some pieces and picks to make a trade.

I’m all for them strengthening the roster, but why did they not go out and get a Center?

Well you can look at this at two ways one they plan to play a lot of small ball or he was the best person available to put into a trade that teams may take at the trade deadline 🤷
I hope that ROSE does not deal with damn Danny Aing. He's all about fleesing people. Forget Walter Kessler , the are other centers available.

Thibs and Rose have decided: No "desperation" centers (even knowing Mitch and Julius might not be ready at the start of the season), so they are giving Jericho his chance. Because we know Mitch's durability's fragile, we'll still need a 3rd 5 but one we want that 'fits' when that becomes available, not just 'any' center out there, so better to wait for a chance at Adams, Williams, Capela or even Walker or Duren a few months from now than 5's like Bartens, Yurtseven, Fernando, etc).
Regardless, Thibs and Rose seem to value cohesion and chemistry and have looked at the stat that in 115 possessions together last year, the lineup of Sims, Precious, Brunson, Divo and jhart posted a collective +20 rating, a good reason to be optimistic bc a more important stat than mere individual ones (what most fans draw their attention to instead…).
Yeah, we can get better and will but truth is we may be good enough already anyway and there's no need to panic. If Sims gets more regular consistent mins (rather than random play with shifting lineups due to injuries), he could be serviceable this year in the playoffs, too. Think fact Sims hadn't played much after March (though he did play well ag CL and Bklyn when he played in that time) influenced thibs' decision to not play him in the PLO (that and the fact that with all the injuries, the situation was already de facto hopeless, hence a "protective" move towards his young player by a wise coach thinking about the future…)
Now knowing this is a exhibit 9 deal it’s not fully guaranteed, he does get a training camp invite. Based off what happens in training camp/preseason it could be fully guaranteed which hopefully that’s the case so we could use him and precious and Keita bates diop and some picks to get a center
As long we get a Productive Big man that cover Robinson, trade is fine
To be a great center you don't have to be 7' 0" +. The great Willis Reed 6'9", Wes Unseld 6'7", Dave Cowens 6'9" had to deal with superstars like Wilt & Kareem.

it might have not been a center added to Knicks final roster spot, but Landry Shamet can ball really well, great guard depth, that center will come via trade deadline or buyout market, Knicks offseason Grade from me an A+, and when they add that center, it'll be an A++ and when they finally win the nba championship again this season will be an A+++, all because of the A++++ GM/president Leon Rose and head coach Tom Thibodeau , all other coaches, and the entire roster. LET'S GO KNICKS!!!!
