New logo and jerseys are cool but it looks like they took “inspiration” from a local Toronto designer 🤔

This franchise paid millions of dollars for a firm to design the dogshit unis we have now. Would probably have better results if the held a fan contest for jersey designs.

  2. Reeeeeeener

    Fan made one looks better..

But like, the fan also look the raptors logo from the raptors and changed it slightly. So who took what from who

  3. Karl_with_a_C

The purple pinstripe looks so much better than the black

  4. delta_vel

I’m not bashing the concept at all but it’s not exactly impossible to think of (the Raptor doing an iconic Vince dunk).

I’d say this idea was in the air, it doesn’t rule out the idea being stolen but as far as IP goes, it’s not exactly that distinctive

  5. earlyearlgray

A lot of the Nike city editions jerseys are ugly this year tbf

As an artist myself, I can understand the frustration and their design looks really, really good.

But from a business standpoint, to think that no one in the entire raptors org would think to make a dino logo do the VC dunk is extremely naive. That’s an iconic dunk and that’s their IP. It was bound to happen.

  7. It’s a Raptor performing arguably the most famous dunk even done by a Raptor player. Only the tail isn’t directly related to that dunk. It’s possible that someone at Raptors HQ saw that design and used it But I’m inclined to think it was coincedence.

I mean both took the VC dunk and made it with the retro logo. I don’t think ether are super creative or original so I don’t think they copied the fan made one. It is one of the most iconic dunks in NBA history and definitely in Raptors history.

  9. Lol I took your logo, modified it and now am mad at you for copying me.

I drew a comic, where on the cover a guy rides a motorcycle alongside some raptors. Then, a couple years later, Jurrassic world came out with Chris Pratt doing the exact same thing.

I actually animated this dunk in an episode of gary and his demons…but I revised the direction of it to go screen left to right.

People are always coming up w cool shit. This homage feels natural to me, I doubt it is directly inspired by the other artist, but just a case of a cool idea being thought of by different people.

/# 1 image associated with the brand combined with #1 action associated with the brand, and you get a raptor doing a between the legs dunk

But sure, let’s just assume it’s plagiarism, I guess

  12. bloorstadman

Is it similar? Sure. But the details on the official one are much better (TOR jersey, #15, the Raptor is holding the current Raptors logo and not just a generic ball)

  13. The official logo is better but the fan created jersey is what the official jerseys shouldve been

  14. shrimpdood

Yes, the idea of a Raptor doing the VC dunk is maybe an obvious thing that they could have coincidentally come up with…

But this is just WAY TOO close. The angle and shape. There’s different ways they could have executed this concept, but they went with one that at a glance, looks identical to this artist’s concept. They stole it.

It bewilders me that companies can’t just pay artists what would be relative pennies for them and totally look like a good guy, but instead have to rip off everything they can get their hands on. I guess it’s their nature.

  15. Yeah if im the artist I wouldn’t make a stink of it. His store has a bunch of clothing with team mascots on them. I highly doubt he got permission for any of the trademarks

  16. Icy-Lime-9760

It’s literally just the logo and design from 1995

  17. Double-Slowpoke

Genuine question but could a “local Toronto designer” even have a claim here when their design is the Raptors Dino itself?

  18. chonkycatguy

Inspired perhaps, but this isn’t a new idea. If anything the artist “stole” inspiration from the Raptors basketball team 😉

  19. I like the Purple on the fan made, but the Raptors Logo version better. Combine those and this would be serious heat ![img](emote|t5_2s5sb|3921)

  20. TheRoninWasHere

When Rogers takes ideas and makes it their own.

  21. MaxPower836

Yeah i get it. But nothing really proprietary

  22. midnightmunchiez

Honestly a combination of the two would be great. Love the Raptors version of the Raptor logo but the actual jersey design is pretty mid imo. Looks like a practice jersey but would go hard with “Raptors” above the logo

  23. constantchangeagain

I did this with a NSMB logo contest. They ended up using my design and giving the prize to one of their friends

  24. pahamack

I don’t like the right hand on the official one, and I think the choice to hide the right hand by the fan-made one is correct.

  25. iversonAI

His looks like the original jersey lol no shit theirs will look similar

  26. savethearthdontbirth

Would never wear anything to do with VC. That being said I hope you get paid for your work.

  27. Lmfao, the raptor has been the mascot for a long ass time. Vince Carter, aka the best dunker in history played for the raptors.

If you put 2 and 2 together, you have the mascot doing a dunk just like Carter. It’s just a common image that anyone can picture and I’m sure a team of professional designers have thought of this logo for a while now along with other designs.

I’m also sure that a large organization would want to avoid any lawsuits or bad publicity to their name so they would talk to the original artist before hand.

Now if it was a logo of the raptor siping a margarita watching the sun set off the coast of the Maldives at 7:53 pm on a Saturday while wearing Air Force 1s, then yeah, that would be a blatant copy.

  28. Special-Sympathy-919

Im sure a guy/gal with the same idea in 2022 is even more mad 🤣

  29. tightcorners

The one the official raptors released looks like a unfinished product compared to the fan made.

  30. Musicferret

Yeah, it’s an icon vince moment with our mascot doing it. No way in hell can you call copyright infringement; especially since they own the copyright to the raptors mascot and all semblances of it. In fact, if you try and profit monitarily off your design, you’d be open to a lawsuit by the team.

Still think your design is cool. Nice work.

  31. iwatchtoomuchsports

It’s definitely coincidence because i made the exact same one in 2k as the concept and i didnt see this until now- didn’t publicize anything. Besides this was already a made logo by the raptors

  32. ttttyttt678

Dino mascot that’s loved doing the most famous dunk in Raptors…very common idea. [Wish the jersey was on Purple].

  33. 1006andrew

the vince logo on the purple jersey actually saying “Toronto” is the way to go. the city edition as is looks unfinished.

  34. I prefer the purple and more center dino than the official one.

  35. whatsadikfor

I think you mean the local Toronto designer took “inspiration” from the Raptors logo and branding and Vince’s dunk.
