  1. Vince needs to patch things up with Toronto. While I congratulate Vince on getting his jersey retired… It's more like a sympathetic gift because in general, no team will retire his jersey. Vince was a journeyman throughout his whole career. Greatest Dunker of all Time. But, a journeyman indeed.

  2. Great historical content, and info. Julius Erving should be the only Net who's jersey should be retired. And maybe Billy Paultz. Rick Barry should be in the conversation, but these jersey retirements are becoming a media show.

I was at the Atlanta ceremony where they retired Pistol Pete's 44 and Dominique Wilkins gave a great speech, along with Dikembe… That was legit. Vince retirement NJ jersey is a joke.

  3. I see it as a mix of why an ordinary superstar would get their jersey retired, and a nick collison/udonis haslem loyalty/mentorship honor. I followed his nets years very closely – he was a better player there than toronto, and meant a lot to their culture even as his time there wound down. A kobe-like talent at the time but with Jason Collins and Miki Moore for a frontcourt.

He never had the spotlight in NJ because the media turned on him during his Toronto days, so his ability as a basketball player is often overlooked by people who werent actively trying to pay attention to it. He had to face double and triple teams most nights and still got busy. Second most game winners of all time behind Kobe, a lot of them in NJ. And basically the first Steph Curry range shooter where he was hitting consistently from halfcourt on normal form. He's slept on

  4. Vince played for the Nets for 5 seasons and honestly the team was only successful for about 2 of those 5 seasons. The Nets were more successful in the early 2000s in the JKidd, Kenyon Martin and Jefferson era. By the time Vince got to Jersey Kidd was getting older and they didn’t have the bench the had when they went to the finals. Jason Kidd has a way better argument to have his jersey retired than Vince does. To me the Nets underachieved with the big 3 they had and should have gone further in the playoffs especially the first couple years of Vince being there. That Nets team only made it to the 2nd round 1-2 times and by Vince 3rd season there they were a lottery team again. 🤷🏽‍♂️

  5. This is called respect — they respected his time there, his skills, and the Nets know they didn't put together a team with structure that could compete, even though Carter and Kidd were capable of winning with Kenyon Martin … So most of these organizations know they screwed things up so they give you that type of respect regardless of what you didn't accomplish. Remember, Carter was good in Orlando as well and they messed that thing up big.

  6. Yo I did a video on this like 4 months ago when I heard about it!?!? It’s insane!!! Richard Jefferson actually has a better case for Jersey retirement!! 🤝🏾

  7. Bro, I'm a vince Carter guy, but Vince was never a penny Hardaway, grant hill, kobe bryant type player to me. Best dunker? ,probably

  8. The fact that the nets retired his jersey before Toronto means that somehow they still hate him it doesn't make sense i see why the nets did it he carried them and actually was extremely great for them even after kid left

  9. Yeah my first thought was "why?' too. He was nice, but didn't accomplish anything whatsoever in New Jersey aside from making the all star team. He wasn't on either of the nets teams that made it to the finals. Jason Kidd should have his number up there way before vince. Richard Jefferson was in his position on the teams that were actually good. S/O to Vince, but this seems kinda random.

  10. Jerseys should only be retired for being absolutely LEGENDARY! Gonna start seeing jersey numbers with 3 digits before the end of this century if they keep retiring numbers for the hell of it

  11. More pandering to a younger crowd. That nets team was another one of those ones with a solid starting five and a weak bench. Reminds me of that Iverson led sixers team where the bench had a bunch of no names. Matt Geiger, Kevin Ollie 😂😂😂

  12. Kidds Jersey should be there not Vince. He was there in 04 then? Kidd's 1st and 2nd season Nets went to NBA finals. He loss both but still made a 26 game win Turn around in 01-02.

  13. Even Jasaon Kidd was tired of this dude who has no motor on NJ Nets. Remember, even Richard jerrferson had slightly surpassed or was on atleast the same level when Vince was regressing on NJ. Vince a H.O.Famer no doubt. But not Top75 & ain't no way nets should retire his jersey. They ain't do sh t when Vince was on the nets.

  14. Vince is a Raptor. Hs impact was as Raptor. He has never made it past the 2nd round with the Nets. Questionable decision from the Nets.
