This Might Be the END for the Bucks…

The Milwaukee Bucks are heading into the 2025 NBA season as a forgotten team. In top contender discussions they rarely come up while teams like the Boston Celtics, New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Dallas Mavericks, Minnesota Timberwolves, Philadelphia 76ers, and Denver Nuggets are all mentioned. After teaming Damian Lillard and Giannis Antetokounmpo last offseason, it felt like they were legitimate title threats, yet the season ended in disappointment. They did have a good offseason adding guys like Gary Trent Jr and Taurean Prince, but the question is will it be enough to compete at a high level? And, if not, where do the Bucks go from here and how do they add more talent especially with the impending free agencies of Brook Lopez, Khris Middleton, and Bobby Portis ahead. Not to mention, if Damian Lillard doesn’t bounce back, we may be looking at a disaster scenario for the Bucks, one that could result in them losing Giannis Antetokounmpo. Let’s talk about it.

  1. Jrue trade was so stupid. On the other hand Lillard really did his best season ever. Kinda funny that he had his worst season just before that. So it is all about bad luck, fluctuations and risky desisions.
    Basketball it is.

  2. Don't let the Dame 31ppg vs Pacers fool you. Dude went 6-20 from the field and 4-12 from three in game 3. He went 7-16 from the field and 4-12 from three in game 6 and scored meaningless buckets when the Pacers were waxing the Bucks late in the 4th quarter. Heck, in game 2, he went 3-9 in the 2nd half. The 31ppg was non impactful. Dame only played great in the first halves of games 1 and 2. Dame didn't perform in game 3 and had no impact in game 6. Sometimes, context matters.

  3. Would trade everyone by the deadline but Giannis and Dame, then trade them in the draft for Cooper Flagg and Ace Bailey or Dylan Harper

  4. See I don’t by into the idea that Brook Lopez will regress. Brook relies on his size and strength on defense and mostly his shooting on offense at this point. Strength and size don’t typically regress heavily with age unless you’re in your 60s. Shooting shouldn’t regress much either. It’s not like Brook is going to lose athleticism… he doesn’t really have any. As long as his back holds up, which he hasn’t had issues with since his surgery, he should be about as productive as he is now

  5. DOC – if you do NOTHING ELSE this season, DO NOT start Taurean Prince. He's a Bench Role Player! Just ask any Lakers fan.

  6. bucks management deserves a lot more accountability for it’s potential downfall in 2023 they lost to the Heat in embarrassing fashion but giannis was hurt half the series and the franchise believes they would’ve won if he were healthy and if that’s your belief why fire coach bud and in the off season when the bucks roster isn’t getting any younger you hire a rookie head coach and you fire him in the middle of the year in search of a coach with more experience and you hire the biggest coach choke artist in modern nba history and to top it all off you scapegoated jrue holiday a pivotal piece in the bucks title run because of his bad series against the Heat who mind you was forced to be second option with middleton beginning his decline so I mean bucks management deserves blame for this collapse as they put blame where it doesent belong and they put too much power in giannis hands

  7. On paper this team has so much talent/potential, the biggest problems which have been consistent recently, are health and doc rivers. This is coming from a Giannis/bucks super fan

  8. Yes, there are some issues that can be said but there are absolutely some things that are being blown out of proportion.

People saying Khris is too old: he's 33. while that's not the youngest you can be, people act like he's as old as LeBron.

People saying the dame trade was the worst of all time: Do i even have to explain that? First year duos never work and he has so much going on in his personal life, on top of not being able to practice and risk injury last off season.

As a bucks fan I'm not saying that they're 100% going to take it all but if things go their way then they are definitely a team others would have to look out for.

  9. First of all, kind of a click-bait title. With that said, I think trading for Dame was a big mistake. First off, I believe Dame is a better player than Jrue, but I don't think he makes the Bucks a better team. Jrue is that guy whose box score is only about 50% of what he actually contributes to a team. As a Celtics fan, I watched him throughout the playoffs and the guy just rarely makes mistakes on either end of the floor. As a defender, he's almost always in position and directing teammates to the right places. On offense, he shoots hyper-efficiently, can score 20+ if needed, but almost always makes the right reads on passes. While he's not a nuclear threat every game like Dame, he's also someone that you can't exploit on either end of the floor.

Dame, on the other hand, is a great offensive player, but he is prone to some inefficient stretches. More critically, he is a minus defender whose defensive ability fluctuates between below average and a total turnstile. In the playoffs, this gives a notable weakness that opposing teams can relentlessly attacked. Notably, his defensive struggles especially on the perimeter make it much less viable for Lopez to drop defend (where he is substantially better than switching). Thus, Dame's defensive weakness actually creates two exploitable openings. On a good screen, opponents can get Lopez on the perimeter (where he's exploitable by quicker players) and get Dame in the paint (where he's exploitable by just about anyone). This is a big weakness and a huge difference from previous Bucks teams that were good on both ends of the floor.

Importantly, the Bucks will also have to face a series of elite scoring guards in the playoffs. In fact, every team but Boston has an elite scoring guard that can easily exploit Dame. Boston doesn't, but the high-efficiency duo of DWhite and Jrue mean that Lillard can't take a break and the Celtics also showed themselves to be adept at forcing the matchups that they want via screens and handoffs. As I said, Dame is a better player than Jrue, but Jrue made the Bucks a better overall team…especially in the playoffs where opponents key in on your weaknesses.

  10. I can see Giannis going to Dallas instead of Jokic especially if Bucks and Mavs can't win this season.

  11. 33 is old for a nba career tf you mean. And don't compare khris to bron lmao.
Bron way durable compared to Khris at age 33. Unless Khris is fully healthy the upcoming season. His decline will just continue on.
