I’m still salty about it. Kyle should be the first one retired

  2. Iseeyoulookin

Dude wouldn’t dunk and was telling the other team the plays then gaslit the fanbase for daring to say he quit.

  3. buelerer

I hope the crowd boos the jersey ceremony.

dawg it’s been like 20 years. we gave him a standing ovation during the game hosting memphis where we played his tribue video. he cried. we won a chip. LOTS has happened since. the carter effect even irons out a lot of the misunderstandings. our front office fucked up. if you haven’t healed from this yet that’s your problem. signed, a day one raps fan.

  5. I remember the first game Vince came back with the Nets and torched us through all the boos. All smug thinking he had proven us wrong, when really he was just proving everyone right by making it clear he wasn’t trying when he was on the Raptors

He’ll always be a bitch, it just depends on how you look at the good vs the bad

  7. RichardIraVos

Fuck Vince Carter. He gave up on the team and only regrets it because his career didn’t pan out like he planned. Franchise and fans should never embrace him

  8. GeeMcMania

I can’t forgive faking an injury so we get pop and a bag of chips when you demand a trade. Unforgivable.

Vince definitely deserves this jersey retirement… time heals most wounds

I think a lot of younger fans will not remember or been able to watch during Vince’s peak. The Raptor’s FO made some terrible moves in signings, draft picks, and coaching and eventually bringing in Rob Babcock (very not good GM who was fired less than 2 years later) to take over for Isiah after his failed coup. Then there was hearsay on who-said-what first to break ties with who… it was all very messy but there’s no doubt that there were levels of organizational fault in the Raptors and huge personal fault in Vince for diva’ing his way out of the team the way he did.

That being said, Vince’s cultural impact for the Raptors is immeasurable. He put the Raptors on the map on a global level. Vince ‘Air Canada’ Carter will always be one of the most talented and influential players in Raptors history. I’m happy to see his number retired and he should be given his flowers.

To those who say he saved the Raptors:

Vince had a huge impact on Canadian basketball sure, but the Raptors were never under the threat of relocation.

Unlike MLSE(who were basically printing money with the Leafs, and were building a new arena before Vince was drafted), Vancouver’s owners(Orca Bay) had a ton of financial troubles, they were in a smaller market(Vancouver wasn’t seen as a huge market like it is today), and were facing mounting losses before they sold the Grizzlies in 2000.

The NBA would’ve never allowed both of their Canadian franchises to move within a 5 year period because it would’ve been a horrible look for them internationally, and it would’ve caused a huge financial loss since the Raptors would be moved into a smaller market.

But realistically, what makes him worthy of a number in the rafters? He won ROY (solo accomplishment), Dunk competition winner (solo accomplishment), no division titles, no conference title, no championship. His only series win was a best of 5. He’s not our scoring leader, assists leader, or points leader. He quit on the team arguably just before his prime years, and made our team worse for almost a decade as a result.

If that’s what you consider worthy then we’ve failed as a franchise.

I would have Lowry or Demar first before Vince the wince 😭

  12. BigMost8851

    “Dunkings overrated”

    – Vince Carter while forcing his way out and setting the team back 10 years

    hEy LeTs ReTiRe HiS jErSeY?!?

Convenient how well he played when he got traded, huh?

  13. Winter_Purpose8695

He’ll always be a bitch to me, but it is what it is. If he actually acknowledged he did us wrong and apologize it would go a long way to us OG fans.

Canadian Basketball Hall of Fame = Yes

Raptors Jersey retirement = HELL FUCKING NO

    (A) People need to grow up and realize forgiveness is part of life.

    (B) People need to understand that there are 2 sides to every story. Did Vince make mistakes, of course. Did the FO at that time drop the ball and make mistakes too? Duh.

All that being said, of course Vince should be the first player to have his jersey retired. It’s so obvious and laughable that some people think otherwise.

Vince did so much for basketball in CANADA (not just Toronto), just by being the elite superstar that he was. That alone warrants him a deserved nod to have this honour.

Kawhi greatest raptor ever, VC face of the franchise for the longest time

  18. Super_Sandro23

Don’t understand why everyone is bitching and moaning about this. VC is the first superstar the Raptors ever had and played a massive part in making the Raptors popular in Toronto and even in the US. He even shaped the culture of the city, which can still be felt to this day. He is absolutely a Raptors legend and deserves this honor.

Doesn’t make any sense to have Lowry and DeRozan before him as they’re both still active players.

    Thank you VC.

  19. posterizeee

The #15 purple jersey is forever iconic, whether you hate him or love him.

  20. prodigus01

Good point. But you could argue that Toronto would have folded as a franchise had VC not did what he did for us.

I believe that to be the case and 4 good years outweighs the 1.5 bad years.

  21. Impressive-Potato

His club “Inside” was the first one to bring bottle service to Toronto clubs.
    Fuck em!
