The Cleveland Browns defense may not still be elite & Jim Schwartz MIGHT be the reason for that

The Cleveland Browns defense may not still be elite & Jim Schwartz MIGHT be the reason for that

Cleveland Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz thinks his players will beat yours, and he doesn’t care who knows it. In fact, before most snaps played by Cleveland’s defense, Schwartz shouts it from his playbook.

In an era defined by funky zone coverages and simulated pressures, Schwartz keeps it simple: Leave my corners on an island and just one safety deep to protect them. Bet on my defensive line and my blitzers to hit the quarterback before his receivers win one-on-one battles, or bet on those receivers to lose.

  1. The team is a wreck because the owner is bad. He is ultimately to blame. Every other isduebcascades from him. Bad GM, weak HC (probably as good as you get in Cleveland), bad coaches (Bubba – assistant HC 🙄, the draft room finds weak minded players – no HOF possibilities. Such a complete wreck. And somebody inform this management group that good football teams are built from the draft and complimented with free agency, not the other way around. If Haslam had just held onto Dorsey we’d be much much better off.

  2. That's the dumbest quote I've heard all day. Haslam is committed to winning. Look at all the $$$ he's forked out. Just because the players aren't playing worth their sweat, isn't Haslams fault.

  3. We have to stop blaming the coaches. These are the same coaches that every last one of y’all said last year was the best coaching staff in the nfl. Yall compared kev to shannahan… it’s Deshaun’s fault. The giants are an NFL team. We can’t start acting like holding a team to 21 is bad. Our 45 million dollar QB needs to score more than Daniel Jones

  4. G-stop bagging on newsome before he goes on Twitter to tell everyone how great he is. 🙂 Actually, he gets burnt all the time… see last years game against the Texans as exhibit A.

  5. Excellent job guys. I listened to G last night on his podcast and he was simply EXCELLENT and bang on with his assessments. Kudos to all of you. Concerning the browns and the entire secondary. Two things are prerequisites: 1), you HAVE to have a Jr, Sr, ll, lll, or lV as a suffix in your name, and 2), you have to be a GREAT dancer, can play patty cake and swivel your hips and gyrate and wave an arm in the air even after you're beaten on a play but the receiver drops it or after any play is broken up so you celebrate like you just won the game on that particular play and are headed to the championship game. PERIOD. The Cleveland Browns ……………..

  6. defense didnt let up a single point the second half! sound like great adjustments to me. they shut em out 3rd and 4th qtr! offense needed to put points on the board but they cant! havent scored 20 pts all year!

  7. I disagree Jim Schwartz is still a good defensive coordinator. This is week three. Last year we lost Nick Chubb after a game and half and we made the play offs our generational talent on offense. Let Myles rest make the team figure it out without Myles like they did without Nick.
