10 years ago the crowd was fine, but now 20 years after he’s gone the reddit keyboard warriors who were <10 yrs old when Carter played here could swear he shot someone on Yonge street.

The guy had a messy exit (as many players do) but he was an NBA icon wearing the Raptors jersey and will make the HOF as a Raptor. It’s even more of an embarrassment for our franchise if we have a HOFer with our jersey who isn’t retired by the franchise. This sub has been an utter embarrassment since this announcement.

Always remember that forgiveness is maturity, and pettiness is the absence of it.

wait till they hear what a REAL ovation sounds like when Kyle gets the #7 pulled up to the rafters.

I’m against retiring his jersey BUT the best revenge is living well.

We got the last laugh in terms of winning a ´ship and he didn’t.

If I was at the game, I wouldn’t cheer but I also wouldn’t boo.

His jersey will also always be retired* (with an asterisk) in my book.

Now, if he ever actually apologized in some way/shape/form, even as a speech when he gets it retired, I would feel alright about retiring his jersey.

Bro I think it’s one of the best turns in public perception in sports history. It became a sport to Boo Vince Carter at the ACC. He was our villain for so long people forgot why they were mad.

But one short video, brought out the Canadian in all of us to say “no hard feelings, thanks for the memories ” and put that whole campaign to rest.

    It was a beautiful moment

I was at this game. The crowd boo’d him every time he touched the ball, then he got a standing ovation during the video tribute, but they went right back to booing him after that.

  6. I remember how absolutely heartbreaking his behaviour was as a kid. Though it was an important lesson to learn in retrospect.

That said, I am glad we showed some class here despite his lack of accountability in the matter. He really did boost the sport in this country.

I was on my 2nd date with a girl and wanted to catch this game at a bar in Toronto. She’s now my wife.

For anyone that was a fan during his time, it’s tumultuous at best. I LOVED VC. I’m a fan because of him. He re-signed here when nobody thought he would. He repped Toronto.

He also gave up on the franchise when he didn’t get his way and then demanded a trade.

He also didn’t MAKE the worst trade in NBA history. He had term left on his deal and there was no urgency to get a deal done, so that’s on the front office.

Does he or doesn’t he deserve? Both are true

We gave him his proper credit, but it’s not the “in the rafters” type of recognition he deserves.

Soooo much salt in this thread over a forward who left AGES ago. He’s an iconic player. Does 7 or 10 deserve it more? Absolutely, but if 15 is going up they definitely will as well.

Lebron’s documentary *The Carter Effect* was released in 2017. History has been rewritten for a new generation.
