Miami Heat: What makes for a more satisfying overall season? | Five on the Floor

The Miami Heat have had very different types of seasons during the Jimmy Butler era: a surprising #1 seed (2021-22) that just missed the Finals and a frustrating #7 seed (2022-23) that made the Finals. What’s a more satisfying season overall? Ethan Skolnick, Alex Toledo and Ben Tovia debate how much the regular season really matters, when looking back at the totality of the experience.

  1. They made it one step further than the Trae Young Hawks and last seasons Pacers. I wish they stopped gloryfing lousy regular seasons, boring low scoring teams, & empty playoff runs. This franchise would always chase chips, now we’re chasing ‘feel good’ seasons smh

  2. It is very much the coverage of the team and how they are discussed that determine how the season is remembered. If the media keeps complaining about “we’ll see who’s playing tonight” or “another game where they barely won” or beating a narrative of when will they trade or bench a home grown player that’s under 25. Really great media outlets understand how to cover a team fairly and generate excitement and not waste time on trades for old veterans players that will never come to fruition and dog some of the team’s best players

  3. If they continue to play with the same disinterest showed on the previous season then it’ll be as disheartening.same if team continues to play slow.

I’ve gone to the arena when it looks like they simply don’t care, they’re waiting to finish to go home. If this is the case, then it won’t matter who starts or finish. Tired of a slow team playing with no effort. Shame

  4. The Heat look at the positive side of the last few seasons and never once are they truly self aware of themselves. They don't look at the fact that they are too small, not athletic and have a bottom feeding offense year after year. Our competition in the east (especially the Celtics) do well during the regular season and refuse to say they have enough. They make trades and get better. Their teams have stars that can score, are available and give 100% when they are on the court.
