might as well retire it, can’t think of another franchise that hasn’t retired an MVP jersey. OKC should also retire 35 whenever that day comes

I think Joakim and D Rose are both no-brainers for jersey retirement tbh. I’ve seen people arguing that you need to win a ring but Love and Sloan are up there. I love that fan favorites like Bob Love can get retired, Jo and D rose definitely fit that bill. You could even do it on the same night, that would be amazing to see given the relationship they have together

I think for the time being it will be unofficially retired. But, officially retired jerseys are mostly for hall of fame players like Mj. You should need to have a sensational standout career to have a jersey retired.

The only person on the team who is allowed to wear DRose’s number 1 is Benny the Bull. Anybody else was sacrilege

As much as I like Rose, he wasn’t great for long enough to warrant the official retirement.

I think it’s nice that they have not used it for a little while but once Rose is retired and his memory fades a little it’ll be time to bring it back.

If Rose makes the HoF we can revisit the situation in 10 years, but retiring it now would be a knee jerk. Rose spent more of his career away from the Bulls than with it and apart from his MVP season he didn’t accomplish that much.

The disrespect in here for D Rose is insane.

Say what you want about his career as a whole, I do not care. Rose is the 2nd most influential player in the history of the franchise. Growing up, he was a superhero, and seeing him retire has actually had me and my friends reaching out to each other after years of not speaking just to talk about it. He created millions of Bulls fans during his era, and he set a standard for the franchise that we have not reached, but have now known we should be asking for, since. He didn’t win a title. He didn’t spend 15 years here. He did change Bulls basketball forever and nobody who was here for all of that would be against his jersey getting hung up. It’s honestly the least the franchise can do for him at this point. We aren’t running out of numbers, hang it the fuck up.

His jersey is 100% being retired. For PR, fill the arena, “please forget how much of a dumpster fire this org is” reasons. But I do think there js a healthy debate if his jersey is really on the same level as guys who won 6 titles. Personally don’t think so.

  9. Anyone saying that you shouldn’t get a jersey hung without winning a ring/in the HoF, look to other sports as well. I retired jersey is about what they did for the franchise as a player but also what they meant to everyone who watched.

  10. Won’t happen officially but this is honestly just as good if not better. Who cares what the owners think anyway.

I don’t remember anyone wearing it after DRose. I remember MCW wanted to wear then he got flamed on his ig.

I’m waiting for the 1 day retirement contract still.

I will be disgusted if we don’t retire 1.

If the agreement is hall of fame and championships , what about Toni kukoc and Dennis Rodman?
Toni played for the Bulls for the same amount of seasons as Derrick. We should be making a case for him.

I’m not a fan of teams retiring jerseys too often but D Rose is a cultural icon he deserves it

They should retire it for about 70 games a year if they want to be accurate.
