Zach Lowe Sacked

The Athletic just reported that Zach Lowe has just been let go. Between him and Woj its really the end of an era. Wonder what's next for him.

  1. The Ringer or Athletic

Edit: actually I really don’t know. Could be NBC or even a wildcard in Amazon. All I know is Lowe will be in demand.

  2. AgadorFartacus

I can’t imagine this even saves them much money. Lowe will land on his feet somewhere. Maybe The Ringer? Massive upgrade over KOC.

  3. shockandguffaw

By the end of the year, ESPN will be solely Schefter and McAfee.

Edit: Let’s get Zach on the Ringer. Let’s get him hosting a thrice-weekly NBA podcast. Let’s have him jump on a new season of The Rewatchables focused entirely on classic Simpsons episodes.

Edit edit: I guess the Prestige TV podcast is prob a better fit for Simpsons eps. I’m just so shook right now, like Bart trying to buy a novelty license plate key chain.

Lowe was their best writer, he’ll easily find new employment

The Mismatch with Zach Lowe and Chris Vernon

  6. wentworthjenga

Well The Ringer’s NBA content just got a massive upgrade.

  7. It is pretty wild that ABC/ESPN puts the money they do into the league and they don’t have anyone who gives serious analysis. I know that isn’t what the average viewer always likes to see, but still surprising there aren’t even options.

  8. Boston_Champions

Imagine sacking Lowe instead of Perkins

  9. The_New_New

I’m curious how much a guy like Lowe makes from these roles.

I legit have no reason to watch ESPN these days. They let go of everybody that was fun or didn’t spew dumbass narratives.

Given Woj’s job I wonder if some media insider agent floated to him that he was also on the chopping block so he preempted it with his retirement announcement.

  12. This is the *only* ESPN podcast I ever listen to. What an absolute disgrace, the man is a legend.

  13. Peregrinations12

ESPN really wants to make sure their viewers/readers don’t learn anything

  14. Insane decision, man. Absolute best at what he does and he’s going to make a ton of money somewhere else. Really hope he goes to The Ringer.

  15. bennett_for_you

The Lowe Post is probably the best overall NBA podcast out there and Zach is a fantastic reporter. Here’s to hoping that his podcast and columns will be free and available at wherever he lands next. Pretty shocking move considering how much value he brings to their NBA coverage

  16. SlamDunkleyKong

Mina Kimes is the last ESPN contributor who is any good across all sports

  17. StormSaniWater

How tf does Zach Lowe get fired lmao. One of the best to do it

  18. ESPN has fully committed to low effort low quality content. It’s actually sad.

  19. aquamarine9

The worldwide leader in sports continues in its commitment to becoming Barstool.

  20. EchoInExile

ESPN’s NBA coverage is already industry worst. Won’t be happy until it’s Perkins, another WNBA washout and Mike Greenberg arguing about Lebron’s legacy full time.

  21. NielsenSTL

Wow…ESPN really lowering the bar on journalism.

  22. PARDON_howdoyoudo

Thats the only ESPN pod i listen to. Glad to be done with the world wide leader. Happy trails Zach

  23. Great, get rid of the only interesting writer and podcaster in your whole network

  24. Turd_Ferguson_Lives_

If anyone still believes Woj quit and was not forced out, I’ve got a bridge to sell you.

  25. Man this is wild, he is the only dude that is part of ESPN I listen to. I wonder if he wasn’t as popular as I assumed or maybe he was just making too much and they are cutting costs. Hope he ends up at the ringer.

Edit: actually I wonder if Bill had any inside info this might happen, on his recent podcast with Zach he was taking some shots at ESPN. But then again he does that all the time, just thought it was weird to do in front of an ESPN employee.

Citing the pay is classic espn bs. They could have renegotiated with him of course if that’s the case. Their sources always mention the salary every time someone is about to get fired.

  27. Monkeypud

At least we won’t have to hear him interview many of his braindead ESPN colleagues anymore.

  28. ESPN letting go of everyone w high pays but continue to be st the mercy of the most insufferable, egotistical voice of Stephen A Smith. Smhh

  29. Spare_Panic599

ESPN is about to have the worst fucking content and broadcasts possible (it already did)
