Jericho Sims WANTS Starting Position! Will START At Center Opening Night… | Knicks News

According to reports, Jericho Sims has been working on his game with Knicks assistant coach Mark Bryant since August. Why August? According to another Insider, they recently revealed that NY knew about Robinson’s injury in August as well. Based on this, it would seem the Knicks told Sims to improve his game because this is his opportunity, if he takes it. Reports have confirmed that NY believes in the depth and current versatility of this Knicks team, which means another move right now is unlikely as NY seems comfortable with Sims and their other options at center. So comfortable that NY is reportedly going to START Sims opening night… Troy Mahabir breaks all of this down!

  1. Shining moment has always been for Sims to step up and shine. Let’s hope he is in condition to play 35-48 minutes. Everyone has high hopes for Sims to be that backup/starter when Robinson is around so they do not have to look to trade deadline for a back up. Achiuwa is going to back up Sims for some rests towards the end of 1st and 2nd half. Randle will probably play final 2:30 to 5 minutes going small ball if they behind but if they up Sims will probably anchor the final minutes along with Achiuwa

  2. He’s got talent. If he can bridge the gap until the trade deadline, or beyond, I’d like to see him go grab it.

  3. MANY of us believe in Jericho, too.

He's shown flashes of great play over the years (ELITE perimeter defense for a center and the most mobile and agile 5 in the NBA bar NONE!) and now is the time to put it together on a consistent basis with regular mins (6-8 pts and rebs and a block per 25 mins a game will get it done until eventually becoming the double-double 2 blocks a game man we know you can become).

Don't have to be an all star or even ihart, just competent and energetic, hard-working and smart on defense and aggressive and active on the boards.

Granted, a situation forced-chosen by fate (Mitch's injury), time and experience (only Mitch and ihart know thibs system for his centers better than Sims) and Knick management (faith, expert judgment and an unwillingness to let us be suckered by Danny Ainge's excessive "demands":

Giving Jericho this chance probably also means keeping Deuce, Kolek, Precious, Dadiat and two first round picks, too, our remaining future and a chunk of our depth)…

But given Mitch's injury (and yes, best he come back later fully healed for the PLO), the difficulty finding another quality center that fits our system (not Bitzko Bayami!) and that we now have Mark Bryant tutoring Jericho, we are lucky to have him.

Let's just hope thibs lets him iso- post and shoot on the pick-n-pop (instead of tying him up in a knot of too many "Don't's!" and mechanical playbook restrictions designated the sacrificial 5 role that drove ihart out of town…), Jalan passes the ball back to him (and other rollers off the screen) once in a while, too, and that Jericho's more able and intent on getting those offensive rebounds to go straight back up with them to the basket or the foul line.

And you don't need to scream, make ugly faces or froth at the mouth to do all that as some cartoonishly believe, just gotta do it, that's all.

Good luck young man! Knick fans are rooting for you bc yes, we need you!

  4. Jericho Sims is finally healthy. Sims has been working with Mike Bibby and Mark Bryant. I believe Jericho Sims will earn the starting job.

  5. Knicks can win some regular season games with Jericho Sims at center. Someone who can legitimately start at center for us will fall through the cracks during the season I feel.

  6. I think giving him another chance would be a smart move I think he could be a force in the paint give him more minutes and playing time

  7. Jericho will DO IT! Coach Thibs is a Center's Guru along with the Assistant Coach Mark Bryant. They will develop his talent. You can't teach size and Jericho has it. There was a reason the Knicks drafted him and have kept him on the Team. He has the talent and the size. Jericho could develop into a Knicks "Wes Unseld". That wouldn't be bad at all.

  8. I'll never understand why the Knicks don't bury the hatchet with Oak34 and bring him on as an assistant coach, strength and conditioning coach, big man coach..
Ask Ewing33 to do some work with Simms or send him to work with Olajuwon. He can learn offense and defense. Mark Bryant wasn't known for offense or defense, I'd feel better seeing JSimms killing it from the low block and in the paint.

  9. Great report Troy! I keep telling you SIMS will be at least as good as MITCH 10 GAMES IN! I know you're NOT a believer which is fine but, TIBBS is VERY LOYAL and will give SIMS his CHANCE to prove himself!

  10. Sims is going to do great. We don’t need him to be 20 and 10. When need an enforcer, box out everyone, rebound hard , protect rim , run hard and finish the lob. 24 mins and 6 hard fouls

  11. I think sims is ready. Bomba signed with the clippers. Dud boogie retire. Can’t tell me he can’t give a team 12 very good minutes

  12. Obviously Simms has the potential for starting center. It’s all up to him & his desire. This is your opportunity big man, don’t let it pass you by. You have youth and skill on your side. I’m praying for you young man. Go for it. It’s your time. I’m cheering and I’m praying for you. God bless. Amen

  13. Will you ever stop calling him kid or young lad or something like that, man have almost 26 years only reason he didn't play is pighead so called "coach"! Brunson have 28 but why nobody call him kid?!
