I agree that he should’ve got more but I think some people here overrate him a little bit because of his steals that go viral. He played under 20 MPG last year and is kinda just a decent bench player who has a scrappy/feisty attitude that makes him a fan favorite.
He’s set to make a little less than 2m this season. I think it’s a wise move. He secures 9m for the following 2 seasons no matter what happens this season. If he performs well next season, he has a player option to go get more money. Athletes are always at risk for injuries and securing the 9m now is a sound decision.

Good deal, and I love watching Alvarado play, but I wouldn’t necessarily call it a steal at this point. Last season was a bit of a downturn for him in everything but 3-pt shooting. I also wonder about his playoff usefulness at his size.
It’s not a huge sample size, but his playoff averages across ten games are 5.5/1.2/1.8 with 1.6 stocks and 1 TOV on 35.8% from the field and 23.3% from 3 in 17.9 MPG.
In the 2024 playoffs he averaged 1.8/1.0/2.3 on ***15% FG and 7.1% 3P*** over 4 games, 15.5 MPG.
