Credit to Demar Derozan for opening up and being willing to talk about mental health struggles. Need more athletes to be able to talk about and share their experiences.

it’s important that pro athletes speak out on mental health issues, it shows that no matter how different, famous and rich they are, at the end of the day, they’re still human beings, that goes through the same things we do
the difference is their voices at their status will be heard more by people, especially the younger generation, so good on him to speak out

I’ve got his book in my to-read-pile. Demar speaking up about mental health is really important because it allows men like me to be seen. As a teen and young man in the 90s I didn’t know I was suffering with mental health issues. I just hid away from the world for months on end, ignoring everything and everybody around me. I threw myself into rather useless activities like gaming instead of engaging with the world around me. It was very rare for men to talk about mental health struggles.
It wasn’t until I read an interview with a Dutch comedian who opened up about his mental health issues that I realised I suffered from depression. Once I identified it, I could work with it, I went from an almost guaranteed future as a failure, probably joining the thousands who don’t see a future and end it, to being able to deploy myself and using my energy positively.
Praise this man, there’s still too many who endure things silently.

Haven’t watched the video of DeMar yet but this title made me think about how Kobe has to have the most dickriders I’ve ever seen from an NBA player
