The story is not that simple. Noel got screwed by Klutch who told him to refuse the offered extension claiming they could get him more money, but then did none of the actual work to get him that money once he hit free agency. It’s not a Schroder thing, Noel got fucked.

Tipping point was him entering the media room to get himself a hot dog at halftime during a blowout. Add in the failed drug test that happened and the Mavericks wanted nothing to do with him afterwards.
He was the first to call out Rich Paul and Klutch for shady business practices, so that helped others beware of them.

No, his agent turned the deal down unbeknownst to Nerlens. His agent, rich paul, wanted to steer him towards the lakers on a cheaper contract. This was all uncovered two years ago, Noel sued them.

The more Nerlens Noel is mentioned the more I feel he needs to speak on the issue, if he feels that he needs to speak on the issue, BUT I know that he won’t speak on the issue until after arbitration.
Basically we’re all in the dark here outside of the notion that USUALLY the athlete doesn’t turn down big money unless they’re told that there’s a bigger payday about to happen. In his case that could have been very true as if I recall it was around the time of the new CBA and seemingly everyone was getting good money. Seems like though a combination of him not dominating + his agent (allegedly) not doing his job doomed him.
I’ll type this: when he got to the Thunder he was the definition of “good, but not great” and maybe it was due to a lack of motivation or maybe he was just slotted more appropriately financially.
I know it’s baseball, but Tim lincecum turned down 5 year/100 mil for 2 year/41 mil before 2012 season. He made 78 mil the rest of his career over that time.
So I guess he didn’t end up losing too much in the end
