Karl-Anthony Towns says goodbye to Minnesota on Instagram

Source

To the Timberwolves Family:

Nine years ago, I arrived in Minnesota as a young man with a dream. Little did I know that this place would become my home, and its people would become my family. Your love, support, and unwavering loyalty have fueled my journey and inspired me to be the best player I could be.

Thank you to my teammates, coaches, and the entire Timberwolves organization for the countless opportunities and experiences. I’ll cherish the friendships I’ve made and the battles we’ve fought together.

To the incredible fans, your support has meant the world to me. It gave me strength on and off the court. I’ll never forget it.

You’ll always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for everything.

It sucks that he got traded because he seemed [genuinely excited to have some continuity in his career this year.](https://youtu.be/SMpXhLVk0lo?si=p1s3IcwNndIQOf9m&t=6666)

    > We’re building off what we did last year—what a special year and a special season it was. All of Minnesota is hyped and excited. They can’t wait to see the Timberwolves back on the court. Last year, we ran with the slogan “Wolves Back,” and I’m not sure what we’ll go with next year. Maybe it’ll be “Wolves Here” or something else, but either way, the energy is high.

    > One thing I can say for sure is that stability is a powerful thing. In my career with Minnesota, it’s been rare for me to look around and see the same faces from one year to the next, or even from midseason to the end. But now, we’re coming back next season with the same core group. Another year of learning, another year of experience. If we’re blessed with health, I believe we can do something truly special, just like last year—but even better. We can take it up a notch.
    >
    > We’ve also gained some great experience. Rudy and Ant played in the Olympics, and Ant’s been finding ways to win and grow by being around the best. That kind of experience and wisdom is invaluable.
    >
    > On top of that, we’ve got some special rookies in Rob Dillingham and Shannon. We have the pieces we need to do something great. Now, it’s just about going out there and making it happen.

  2. They traded the one guy who liked living in Minnesota smh

Such a loss for the wolves. Kat will be sorely missed.

I hope Randall can fill this void, extremely rare for a vet to be so accommodating to a young star and take critism from them on a public forum. Kat had no ego and seems like a real one.

  4. CashMoneyWinston

I sincerely hope he makes his way back to Minneapolis before his career is over, seeing him retire elsewhere just ain’t right.

Love ya Big Purr, the Wolves (and this entire state) will always have a place for you in our hearts

We lobe you Kat. You’re the reason so many of us even became fans to begin with. I hope succes in New York, you deserve it 🙏.

KAT thanked Minnesota before AD thanked NOLA.

KAT made Wolves basketball fun again. So many ups and downs, on and off the floor for KAT, and people had their memes and jokes, but he unquestionably will go down as one of the best Timberwolf players of all time. He did a lot for the team and in the community over the last decade and I know Minnesota fans appreciate that as much as KAT appreciates them for sticking by him through the tough times.

I knew it would end eventually but I didn’t expect it to end now. I’ll always root for KAT – he brought it all on the court and in our community. Go get that yarn.

I always enjoyed watching him play. I’m as cynical and skeptical as he’ll, and even I believe he is a good person.

He does charity shit because he likes to give back, not for a photo op.

Best of luck. I never liked the Knicks, but with OG and KAT I can’t hate them.

Man, I’m gonna miss watching you in a Wolves jersey KAT.

It just wasn’t worth it watching the Wolves for a while. After KG left we got to watch Big Al Jefferson ball out for a while which was fun but you knew it wasn’t going anywhere. Even after we got Kevin Love I was like eh he’ll be gone in a few years and I was right.

Us drafting KAT made me want to watch the Wolves again, even when we still had bad seasons, occasionally him and Wiggins would do some amazing stuff (like beat the 73-9 Warriors) so it was worth it again. Watching him got me back into basketball again for the first time since I was a kid, and I became a die-hard fan.

He went through so many ups and downs here, and now he is leaving just when the team finally has a vision and seems to be executing it well. It hurts. I wanted him to be successful here.

I try not to get too attached to sports (for my own mental health lol) and just watch for enjoyment, but KAT was always so genuine you just wanted to root for him, so it’s hard not to feel some type of way about this. I hope he has success in New York.

It still doesn’t feel real, but I’m excited to see what he can do in New York.

  12. This was a great trade for Knicks, not a good trade for Minnesota IMO

  13. graveyeverton93

I’m still in shock that the Timberwolves have done this! Legitimate title contenders, and they decide to make themselves worse! Mental.

In a league where we so many players demand trades it really sucks to see a guy who genuinely loved where he was at get traded out of nowhere like that. I feel for him. He’s handled it with class though.

  15. jl_theprofessor

This is honestly one of the most fucked up trades.

  16. Kakophoni1

Damn, there’s no one left in Minnesota from the Spooky Wolves era

  17. Sortbycontisright

I have no idea how this will work out basketball wise.

But we as a state are worse off today than we were on one week ago today.

  18. HighThaiGuy

    KG leaves Minnesota. Wins championship.
Kevin Love leaves Minnesota. Wins championship.
    KAT leaves Minnesota. Wins championship?

  19. physics223

I forgot that OG is still on the Knicks. Holy shit. Haha.

  20. From everything I’ve read, he really didn’t want to go. He was happy staying with the Wolves and looking forward to playing with this team, and they could have come out of the West. It’s really too bad. I think he fits in well with this Knicks team, but he really wanted to stay and was comfortable in Minnesota.

After watching his interview with Shannon on Club Shay Shay, it just made me more depressed, and highkey mad that they traded him. He spoke so much about finally getting it together, and bringing a ring to Minny. It’s sad that he’ll never get to do that now. And now, he’ll probably go win a ring with NY lol (It’s more likely than Minnesota winning one lol)
