Thoughts on finishing out the Roster?
It looks almost a sure thing that Shamet is going to lock in spot 13. I don’t think that leaves us with enough $ to get another vet minimum for Chuma Okeke, Alex O’Connell, Damien Baugh, or Tj Warren.
At this point I think we have two options to get to 14 roster minimum.
I think they move hukporti from a 2way to a full contract and sign a new 2way.
OR
Trade big mitch for a young center and a shooter that match money. I like Richards and Martin, but I think they hold onto Mitch and let his value rise.
My only thoughts are if we still have the MLE we could use?
Let me know what you think Knicks Fam!

yeah im ready for bro to go
i wouldn’t convert hukorpti. i want him full time in westchester (not sure that matters). i would convert mccullar or toppin, and like you said, add another 2 way player AFTER preseason, when we see who shakes loose from overstocked teams like okc.
Ehhh thinking Mitch’s value will rise is pretty wishful. Tbh it’s on a not-so-slow decline imo. Think it’s best we trade him as soon as there’s a decent offer.
mitch’s value isn’t gonna rise.
if he can play 70 games he’s one of the best defensive centers in the league, and that’s widely known. but the injury history makes him more likely a backup with minute management
to de-risk the amazing roster we’ve built, i would prefer to trade him for someone who’s value is less known but has a potentially high ceiling. even if they wind up being less talented than mitch long-term, durability would go a LONG way on this roster.
What is driving a Robinson trade is his contract value and length. It is small enough dollars wise where another team would take it on and it is short enough where a team could see his contract expire in 2 seasons while they could give the Knicks a longer contract that could match with the Brunson/Bridges/KAT/OG/Hart core. I am sure there are other ways he can be traded, but that one jumps off the bat to me.
More importantly, and brought to us by our spreadsheet master lord and savior, a Mitch extension 2 years from now messes up the luxury tax apron situation for the Knicks. And that makes him not just tradeable, but a very likely trade candidate. They could just let him expire, but this front office looks to be far more creative then that.. You do not have to like that the CBA is going to split up teams, but its happening, and I just like that the Knicks seem to have found the loophole first.
Beyond that, and very simply, the Knicks need a center who can play a 100 game season. And Robinson is not going to do that.
Speaking of guys Thibs has coached up, remember when Robinson would foul out after like 15 minutes of action?
Its time for Mitchs tenure in New York to end, I just don’t know what we get back without attaching a lot of picks. I like Jonas Val, Steve Adams, Duren, Stewart, Holmes (kinda), Zubac maybe if the Clippers bottom out.
Herb Jones and Theis would be a very appealing package but we’d have to over-pay, maybe Mitch, Sims and 2 2nds gets it done at the deadline but idk, moving Mitch is a hard sell for the buyer
No one is trading for Mitch now, he’s already going to miss like half the year. He has to come back and prove he’s healthy before anyone would take a chance on him. What team would ever trade a “young center and shooter” for a dude that is always injured, and injured right now, with a January return, maybe…
Idk why we don’t just keep Mitch??
we should trade back for divo at the deadline
