Jrue Holiday trade one year later: A success on every level for Boston Celtics
It’s been one year since the Jrue Holiday trade, which obviously worked out perfectly for Boston, but it also had far-reaching effects around the league. John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal and Tom Westerholm explore how the Celtics’ foresight in acquiring Holiday (and Kristaps Porzingis) anticipated the new CBA restrictions, reshaping their strategy in the NBA.
This episode highlights Holiday’s seamless integration into the Celtics’ system, showcasing his elite defensive skills and calming influence in the locker room. We also examine the ripple effects on the Milwaukee Bucks, who might regret trading him, and speculate on the Los Angeles Clippers’ missed opportunity, leading them to James Harden instead.
Join us for an engaging discussion on the strategic brilliance of the Boston Celtics and the broader implications for the NBA. Tune in for unique insights into how these moves have impacted the league.

I didnt notice the "reliving" at the beginning of the thumb nail. My heart dropped for a second
When Two Time Jrue 💍💍 was with the Bucks, Bucks were #4 defensively. When Jrue lefr, Bucks dropped to #19. He's made a huge impact to get us banner 18.

Thanks John you almost gave me a heart attack with the headline "Jrue Holiday trade" since it cuts off the full title in the mobile notifications 😂😅
If the Bucks don't do what the Celtics did when Wyc told Brad "we can't run it back woth the same team", the fear of Giannis walking would have beeeeeeeen real real.
They were shook and acted accordingly.
Think Bucks fans would still rather appease Giannis even if it helped the Celtics win a chip(idk if they would agree if it turns into multiple Celtics chanpsionships tho)

The Celtics will trade Jrue Holiday along with Al Horford, Luke Kornet, Payton Pritchard, and 2025 and 2026 1st-rounders to the Kings for De’Aaron Fox and Domantas Sabonis.
I pulled an Eddie House and belted out a "HELL YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!" when I saw the news of the trade. What a day.
Love the polo locked on shirt.
I hope walker makes the team good jru insurance
John always repping with the top notch Locked On swag! 💯😎
Johnny K and Tommy West…yea baby!!!!!! (still laughing) God bless Jrue Holiday.
Another pod with Tommy West💯🍀
Perfect move man. So glad we got Jrue. Can't wait to see what this season has in store for him. 💪🏿😤🏆☘️💯
It will be interesting to see if Rob has a comeback season. Malcolm will start for wiz.
Your reflection is accurate. I remember–like you, I figured it was too hard, Jrue made too much money. I was also still geeked about the KP trade and saw this as more gratuitious. Still, the moment they made it, I realized, "Yeah, they'll be better for this."
John, one year from now, you'll need to do a podcast saying, "We're one year since KAT made the Knicks the best starting five in the NBA… <laugh track>" Not letting this go, Bobby Marks. Not. Letting. It. Go.
Well Tom, the DIFFERENCE between watching Jrue and Marcus is Jrue may have a bad game–esp. shooting. It's just a bad game. There is almost NO time, Jrue has a "Marcus" bad game. When he's 1-for-8 shooting threes…but takes three more in crunch time anyway. When he makes some weird play that you think, "Whuuuuuuuut?" Or is just hurt for 2 dozen games and playing on one leg. Nope. SO much calmer; the LEAST mercurial guy on a TEAM of pretty calm guys.
John, I might agree with your Clippers take… if Jrue were also a knee surgeon. Dunno, hard to believe their playoff fate would've been much different or their decision to avoid the 2nd apron with PG.
