When Kobe Agreed to Sacrifice for Shaq ๐ค | @LewisHowes #shorts
Kobe Bryant gives an interview with Lewis Howes on the 2002-2003 season where Shaq was struggling with some nagging injuries to his toe and knee and was due to sit out a couple games in February. It was at that time that Kobe was starting to come into his superstar phase as he was already an elite player but he was generally playing in Shaq’s shadow as the second option on a great team. Kobe ripped off a streak of 9 games scoring 40 or more points while making it look easy. Well, rather than ride the momentum upon Shaq’s return, Phil Jackson asked Kobe to dial it back in order for the team to get used to playing the way it would need to play in the NBA Finals as their goal was to defend their title.

Probably the goat duo in the nba. Unless that's admiral and timmy
Edit, I meant 2-on-2. I could be wrong lol
Yeah, this story checks out. Keep in mind that Shaq, despite his dominance, was a rainbow man throughout his career. He only had championship success, though, when around particular personalities.
Here's the overall point of what he said: "less means more" ๐
People really think Shaq carried those teams ๐คฆ๐ปโโ๏ธ
Kobe stealing all MJ moves and his coach. Why do you think the Lakers won 5 times. Great players but God like coach. Just ask anyone of his players.
That's When Kobe took Shaq personally. He didn't agree because he was on a tear.
Would phil have told jordan that?
I call BullShit
Kobe's IQ is phenomenal. … #24 is awesome
2 of the most selfish players ever!
Phil Jackson aka Zen Master ๐
9 straight games ,40+pts
Crazy work
Not just Shaq but the Black Mamba sacrificed a lot throughout his career to a one team !!๐๐
Yeah, and the Lakers lost to the spurs in round two.
Phil knew how to get stars to get on his page.
Imagine them parlays๐ข
LeBron would have never done that it would have been all about LeBron๐
Ww know.
Phil Jackson legend.
And they lost the championship to the Pistons that year if I'm not mistaken ๐
No disrespect to Kobe, but in 03', the Lakers (didn't) "go through the Western Conference" because the Spurs (did), and eventually won the championship!…thanks for "dialing it back", Mr. Bryant!๐ซก๐๐๐๐ผ๐
Shaq was the reason for the rings
So unselfish and just amazing to see him truly hear, understand, accept and execute what the coach wanted in order to achieve the real goal, a championship.
A coach with a vision a d goal towards Championship. Al this while astutely leading his star players!โค๐
Kobe is the GOAT!!!
Naw Shaq soft if Kobe got it going sallow your pride and let him be great couldnโt stand Phil and Shaq
Let that marinate on the brain he had an opportunity to tie and break Michael Jordan's record of 10 40 plus games
Phil, the GOAT
This was '03 ?? Should have just left kobe to it
…and people have the nerve to say Shaq carried Kobe to 3 Championships…STRAIGHT BLASPHEMY…KOBE WAS BEING HELD BACK.
What if Shaq wasn't a clown is such a great hypothetical.
