I’m a gobert supporter – i wish he and other players didn’t feel the need to read everything people say about him online. I think the only other player who could compete with rudy those years was AD and he was injured too much to be considered for DPOY, in my opinion.

It’s a regular season award and normally he raises the regular season floor of his teams by doing his job. I always thought there is a lot of resentment for how much he makes. If he was a minimum salary player… do you think there would be so much hate… that and the fact that he is not from USA.
People in here like “Rudy should just keep his mouth shut” like there’s ever been a modern hall of fame caliber player— and make no mistake, he’s absolutely making the HoF— that has had legacy and his entire identity as a player called into question as vigorously as Rudy has.
Dude’s name is constantly in the media among talking heads and ex players because those people, including all-time greats and guys Rudy prolly looked up to as a young guy, are constantly trashing his name and trying to knock him down a peg. I’d be pissed if I were him too.

Rudy is the king of the basketball reference era. If you look at his standard stats there is little argument against him. If you watch a playoff series against his team, you would be hard pressed to pick him though. He’s a regular season beast when 90% of teams don’t do a full scheme against him.

Who’s more important defensively
LeBron, Bam, AD, Giannis, Embiid, Kahwi, PG, Jrue Holiday, and Jimmy Butler are all better, more impactful; and switchable defenders who can play all 4 quarters and playoffs.
Goes back to a pet peeve of mine. If some talking head on TV says Player A should have been an All Star, then say which player they should have made it over instead. And say it in either same sentence or say it directly afterwards. You can’t give out an award without taking that award from someone else.
He’s a really tall guy that is a zero on offense, and only has one job on the court (paint and rim guardian)
I think a lot of the hate he gets is due to how he’s not really doing much on D, aside from being tall with a high motor.

the issue is that league is desperate to generate controversy. these players are all decent and have little drama. I think there is also this French animosity. not just Shaq.
NBA needs controversy and more interactions so they can make money. without these arguments, MJ vs LeBron, AD vs older players, etc etc etc, it looks dull. league probably lost lots of money post 1999 lockout and they are trying to recover and owners have no patience.

As a Sixers fan, I’ve always thought that Rudy was overrated defensively because Embiid would consistently drop 30+ on him.
