[Shankar] Corey Kispert on his contract situation (if he and the Wiz don’t make a deal by 10/21, he becomes an RFA at the end of the year): “It’s been really fun. It’s a big decision and it’s a big part of anybody’s career, that first introduction to the business side of basketball.”

It will be interesting to see what the outcome is here. I assumed they would try to do what they did with Deni last year, sign him to a team-friendly contract and trade him after the season’s over. If that doesn’t happen it could be for a variety of reasons.

Kispert may feel like he’s worth more money than they’re offering, bet on himself having a good year and test the free agency market next year (this would be a mistake IMO considering how non-star free agents have gotten shafted by the new CBA). The Wizards may feel like it’s worth keeping Kispert’s trade options open for now and trade him mid-season (like what happened to Rui).

The quote “that first introduction to the business side of basketball” kind of has me concerned, like there’s some kind of hold up behind the scenes where the two sides can’t come to an agreement, but I don’t want to read too much into it.
