[DiGiovanni] Nick Nurse said Ricky Council IV has been “really good” and that he tasks him with crashing the offensive glass, running the floor, defending and taking open 3s that come his way. “I’m confident at some point during this year, he’ll have some stretches of considerable minutes.”
Not sure if Nurse is saying Councils not in the 9-10 man rotation rn, or he's saying Council could actually see as high as 6man minutes at some points in the season. Either way though, hyped for RC4
We would have beaten the Knick if Rickey had gotten some run last year.

I’m not exaggerating i think we win the Knicks series if he got all of Tobias’ minutes. These exact traits are what we were missing from a wing in that series

That doesn’t sound like a ringing endorsement honestly. Ricky needs to get consistent minutes from day 1.

He’s the biggest swing piece on the current roster. This guy could be a bench stud or he could be nothing

That’s what I want to hear. He can be a bigger, better shooting Josh Hart type for us hopefully

Im glad we have a coach that cares about more than a “pecking order”

I’ve been saying this all off-season. All we need is wings who do the little things consistently and RC4 has the body type and athleticism to do those things. Another attribute I think is helpful is his strength when it comes to attacking the basket with good body control and helping out on the offensive glass.

Nurse knows his players, and this the right approach to take with Council. Ricky is obviously at his best when he feels like he has something to prove. He won’t be discouraged by Nurse saying he can do more. No sense guaranteeing anything before we see the new roster in action.
He’ll rise to the occasion and become part of the rotation, if not a situational starter by midseason in my opinion. If his shooting looks serviceable, I could see him replacing Oubre in the starting lineup, with Oubre coming in as a shot creator with the bench unit (which I think is Kelly’s best role). Ricky and Caleb are two great hustle players with length and defensive versatility, the version of Ricky that Nurse is describing here would make those two the ideal players to share the floor with Embiid, Maxey, and PG.

Sounds like Yabusele is really going to be ahead of them in the depth chart then?

I hope he’s able to get those stretches not just due to injuries but because he’s producing. Dude is built and clearly has an eye for defense. Hope he can be a “little things” kind of player.
