[Linn] Kawhi Leonard when asked about his position and playing power forward: “Who was the power forward last year? It’s gonna be the same thing pretty much. But we gotta control what we can control. I probably ran the top-five most miles per game last year. Or top-10. All coming off a torn … “

Quote continues: “.. meniscus. So we gotta see if that’s beneficial for me or not.”

Rare of Kawhi to break out of character and waffle that much

During the middle of our hot streak when we briefly occupied the top spot in the West, I remember Kawhi campaigning for the FO to make a move for a PF.  Basically saying that our current level wasn’t sustainable given a massive hole in the roster created by the Harden trade.  We had limited resources to work with for making a PF trade, but it was perhaps a foreshadowing of the Paul George free agency saga that our FO stood pat and didn’t make a win-now move.  Seems like the plan now is to tread water as a play-in hopeful, and retool with several small but savvy trades over the course of several seasons.

I just looked it up and Kawhi ran the 31th furthest distance per game last season. Not top ten, but more than you might expect given his knees.

Edit: It’s more than players like Haliburton, Kyrie, Bruson, Mitchell, Durant…around the same neighborhood as Siakam/Booker.

I could see a big trade for a legit 4 with these comments coming out.

  6. He loves talking about his injury and I get it. Coming back from that is a miracle and shows how great he is but that contract is horrendous and clippers screwed up giving that to a guy who won’t even be in the playoffs this year again.

I’d love to see the Clippers make a trade for Jerami Grant. Threes and defense are all he does, but he’s a PF and those are two things the Clippers could use.

  8. Sadly, Kawhi then tore his ACL before he could finish delivering his quote.

Modern stoic philosopher Kawhi, “we gotta control what we can control.” ✊🏻respect

I give it 2 months until he asks out

  11. PFs are basically just small forwards of the past. KD, Lebron, Tatum, Jimmy Butler, Kawhi, PG will probably start at PF for the Sixers also.

He probably meant within the team, if it’s to make sense with the rest of his comments. If so, he was actually top 1 in miles per game for the Clippers.

Why is he lying straight up when we know the truth

None of this matters. Everyone a year older and KL has been limping for like 8 months. This group is gonna be in the Flagg lottery. Norman gets traded. Maybe Harden too.

  15. devonschmidt

He was 31st in per game and 61st in total for the regular season.

Clippers had an absolutely brain dead of an offseason. Let PG go, resign Harden, let Russ go. Either you bring all 3 back or you get rid of all 3 and retool/rebuild. Only win now team in the NBA that keeps getting worse.

Kawhi is a negative asset. If they can get rid of him for 2 second rounders and some second year player that played ,59 minutes last year they should

I don’t love K but you can take out guards and then do this again for a more balanced approach.
