Posting here because I think we’re one of the few teams that could actually make some sense here (not a ton but trading PJ is nearly impossible but let me explain the little bit of sense it makes for the Raptors):

So it seems that LAC won’t just buyout PJ themselves, likely because they want to trade him for someone that can contribute. So they’re trying to find a team with a ~10m matching contract. But the trickier part is that the Clippers only have 1 Second Round Pick (in 2031) to trade (and 1 First, but I don’t see them trading a 2031 first to trade PJ lol). So they don’t have much to incentivize a team to take on PJ.

The Raptors have a matching contract (Boucher) and would probably be more than happy to buyout PJ. The Raptors would have 2 incentives to do this:

    1. The 2031 SRP. Draft capital is draft capital, and based on the fact Boucher is still on the team, sounds like we aren’t getting much in any offer for him. A 2031 SRP is probably one of the lowest value draft picks you can get in a trade so this really isn’t much. But something > nothing I guess lol.

    2. Assuming you buyout PJ and sign Bruno Fernando, that still allows you to keep 1 roster spot open. Combine that with us still having our MLE, which serves as a ~12m TPE, that gives us the roster spot + exception to help facilitate deals during the season for additional assets. You’re able to sign Bruno for C Depth without losing the flexibility the free roster spot affords us. As we currently stand, if we sign Bruno we have a full roster.

Just an idea. Not a huge fan and think it’s probably just better to keep Boucher cause we might need his 10.8m expiring to match a salary in any trade we make during the season, but wanted to share the idea at least.
