The 2025 NBA offseason wrapped up with a shocking blockbuster deal as the New York Knicks sent Julius Randle and Donte Divincenzo to the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Karl-Anthony Towns. It’s a big addition for a roster that contains Jalen Brunson, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, Josh Hart, and more. Some people are iffy on the trade while I personally love it for New York. It gives them more versatility, spacing, and the talent to compete with, and potentially outclass, the Boston Celtics, Philadelphia 76ers, Milwaukee Bucks, Indiana Pacers, Cleveland Cavaliers, Orlando Magic, and Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference. It also gives them the best Knicks roster of my lifetime and a real opportunity to win the NBA Finals against any of the juggernauts out West like the Oklahoma City Thunder, Dallas Mavericks, Phoenix Suns, or Denver Nuggets. Ultimately, it’s a controversial move that I believe was worth the swing and could be what gets the Knicks their first ring in decades. Let’s talk about it.

I agree 💯 with your assessment. It’s a mistake to consider Kat on this Knicks team in isolation, just as it was a mistake to think Knicks were getting fleeced in the OG trade. It is their particular strengths that bolster the aggregate, making everyone around them on this Knicks team better. I still want some backup 5 security, or a versatile backup 4/5, but Knicks are definitely for real for the first time since ‘94.

Knicks starters need to gel more for sure but certainly not going to beat the Celtics. DDV is better than Kat.
They still need more depth at center. Maybe trade precious and the rookie Dadiet plus some 2nd rd picks for a backup center.
Where is the defense coming from ?
If they kept donte and gotten KAT, donte wouldn't come off the bench, he would be the perfect 2 for that squad.
