At this point, the people that believe Gobert is the best defender in the league just can’t be convinced otherwise. They are so entrenched in their position that they’ll just die on that hill. I’ve given up even trying.
Teams are going to start figuring Wemby out. His length is a huge asset, but eventually effective counters will be discerned and guys are going to go at him much more than they do today. Wemby is more athletic than Shawn Bradley, but that doesn’t make him un-counterable. IMO Wemby on defense is a 2-trick pony. 2 very good tricks, but far from a complete defensive player.
My guess is that teams are going to go at him HARD. Get into his head because he, much like a lot of Euro players, doesn’t like to be beaten up on the court. Players are going abuse his lack of strength, and fact that his long bones naturally move more slowly in certain directions. Teams are also going to work hard to get into his head. He’s young, and can be taunted off his game.
Teams are going to do all this because they have to.
