The Mavericks Just Got Bad News

Dante Exum injury news from Shams Charania: Exum will miss three months after undergoing surgery on his right wrist. Exum got hurt during Mavericks training camp and will be out for the beginning of the 2024-25 NBA season. Mavs head coach Jason Kidd will have to turn to Spencer Dinwiddie and Jaden Hardy to be the Dante Exum replacements in the Mavericks’ rotation . The Mavs will obviously give Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving the bulk of the point guard minutes, but Kidd will have some rotation questions to answer in the Mavericks’ preseason. Mavericks rumors on signing a point guard in NBA free agency are quiet, but there are names like Dennis Smith Jr. and Markelle Fultz still available should Mavericks GM Nico Harrison want to sign a free agent.

Mavs head coach Jason Kidd on Jaden Hardy’s spot in the rotation:
“He’s making the right play. His motor was high, but also I think his voice. He’s out there talking…We all know he can score the ball but he was making plays and even with the turnovers he was trying to make the right play.”

  1. Do you trust Jaden Hardy to replace Exum in the rotation? Y for yes, N for No

  2. Exum has been prone to injury his entire career so he knows the drill and if he can come back healthy the second half of the season it'll provide relief for guys who need some rest.

  3. The signing of Dinwiddie becomes much more important, and Hardy has to make that step forward we've been waiting for.
We all know that Luka and Ky will miss games. Exum played a key role in the first half of the season. Need to rethink those 2-way contracts to sniff out an emergency PG…or go find another Campazzo type vet from overseas.

  4. This is an absorbable blow. We are deep at the 1 and 2 position. It hurts us defensively for the time being.

  5. Over exaggeration with this episode we have plenty of guards he will be valuable towards the middle of the season. Spencer hasn’t been with the team in year and a half this gives him a chance to get acclimated with what we got going on now.

  6. Actually, good news. I'm not trying to be mean.. I don't want nobody to get hurt. But we need to see what we really have with J Hardy

  7. Overreaction. This will strengthen the chemistry of Dinwiddie with the second unit which is ideal given we are way more likely to play him more in the playoffs then Exum. Hardy is a better initiator anyways. He can now take the jump we are waiting for.
