Puffy used to do deals like this with Bad Boy artists for publishing.

Not a good way to market your company if you’re comparing yourself to a 360 Deal

Kendrick Perkins is the absolute WORST
LazzyAssed
This isn’t really a bad offer. If I’m reading the article correctly; player gets $50k, then Nilly acts as their defacto agent and sells said player’s NIL as much as they can. Nilly then gets 25% of the total revenue but only UP TO $125k total additionally.
So let’s say if over the 7 year contract Nilly does their job and sell the player’s NIL for $1M dollars, then the kid is only out of $125k and gets to keep $875k, plus the additional $50k. Another example, kid gets $1M a year for NIL, over seven years that’s $7M total – $125k fee for Nilly, so player keeps $6,875,000, again plus the $50k.
It’s purely player dependent but it may be a solid offer. Especially if the player is under the radar for whatever reason and having a hard time getting looks but has draft potential.

At the height of NFTs, I watched this guy go on a show with 2 YouTube idiots talking about his nft project. It looked like he just FaceTimed in between talking gigs that day.
During the interview when describing his project, he just kept saying “things of that nature” after everything he’d say.
Guys a dummy and a scammer.
Icy-Lime-9760
This is actually pretty common, you guys need to go outside more.
ShipAdorable144
no its not lol. its a gamble on their future. its not lifetime cuts of their pay, its 7 years.

ESPN writing a hitpiece on Kendrick Perkins while he works for them is so funny

You’re never gonna believe this but they’re backed by *private equity.*

Quite the editorialized title providing no context and making this a bit of clickbait

I’d say he’s a bad bloke if I could believe he knew what he was doing

What’s gross about it?
It sounds like a pretty fair deal. OP only posted with a clickbait title because he knows the lot of drooling sheep users here will immediately trigger themselves because it’s Kendrick Perkins.

Glad ESPN decided to fire Zach Lowe but keep this grifter on board.
superfadeaway
the hilarity of reading these comments from ppl who didnt read past the first sentence of the article

essentially gives $25k – hundred of thousands now, for them to own your name and likeness plus 10% – 50% of your NIL earnings for the next 7 years.

What’s the Venn diagram of kids bright enough to get into college but dumb enough to give Kendrick Perkins money?

This feels like it has shades of when Spencer Dinwiddie wanted to tokenize his contract but at least that would’ve really only impacted himself, Kendrick and his partner having rights to the bulk of most of these athletes earning years sounds terrible

I don’t see what’s wrong with this. Especially with the ROI cap.

Wow this is actually super predatory. I was expecting it to be a shitty take.

I mean, that’s not really very bad? In the case that the player ends up being so big that the sum that company would be getting becomes big, then the player would still be getting too much for them to care until the contract is over.
As much as I hate Perk, this is really not very different from the usual stuff you can find in financial markets.

“Ricciardi compared the deals to advance payments musicians receive in exchange for future royalties“. Idk if comparing yourself to the music business is the way to go. So many stories of musicians getting fucked over by shady deals

People are shocked as if most big sport brands/corporations don’t do the EXACT same thing. Kendrick is just an easy target for outrage and ridicule. He’s doing what they all do.

People have been doing this kind of shit to minor league baseball players for years. It’s gross and the teams/colleges should have some on-staff counselor/advisor for players in situations like these.

This looks so bad on first glance that I know im going to get a lot of hate for this, but the details don’t look that bad. If you read the article, it states that a sample contract offered 50k for future earnings OR until it makes back 125k over 7 years, the length of its contract. Reasonable numbers.
It doesn’t quite seem like he’s trying to prey and exploit elite athletes of out their millions by taking advantage of their current circumstances.

Yeah this sounds exploitative…
Yeah he’s scum.
This is a thing in mlb, they pay a guy up front and take a percentage of his career earnings, it’s like reverse insurance for if your career never goes anywhere. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/2024/04/04/big-league-advantage-tatis-dexter/
This is [pretty common in MLB](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/betting-on-minor-league-players-is-like-a-lottery-ticket-but-worth-the-massive-risk-ceo-173252557.html) and has been for a while now.
