Ben Simmons says it’s “disrespectful” that fans think he’s robbing teams, and their disrespectful comments will eventually catch up to them 👀

Full quote via NY Post and Brian Lewis;

“People make comments saying I’m robbing. No. When I got that contract, I was playing at a super high level. Unfortunately, I had injuries. But for somebody to say that, it’s disrespectful. [But] people can say what they want to say. They’ve got to live with it. At the end of the day it all catches up with you.”

He could have taken a restructuring deal to shave it to like 20milor less.

Makes it easier to trade or sign other dudes

Give Ben the chance to prove the haters wrong with 48 mpg 🙏

Please please please prove us wrong

But rn I’m 99.99% sure that retirement is a better path for him. Back injuries are tough and there’s more to life than ball

However, if I was him I would keep on trying too. Till I can’t anymore – so I get it

He was AWFUL game one, but I’m gonna give him the benefit of the doubt. As much as it needs to happen or the potential of it, we know Ben should not be playing center especially when he’s going to body centers a majority of the game. I’d rather he make contact when he attacks rather every possession.

I’m hopeful, but I have no expectations. I hope he plays like an all-star and re-signs for cheaper.

Wild to say this about people paying to see you warm the bench for years. Even his coworkers think he’s an asshole lmao. When everyone is saying the same thing…

Technically it isn’t robbery because he and the team agreed on that contract and we agreed to take it on but yeah it’s robbery let’s be serious

He’s making 40mil a year, and hasn’t played basketball for the past 3 years. Either medically retire or accept that you’re robbing the league

I have been trying to just keep my mouth shut about his disastrous contract because bad things happen and mental illness is so evasive to perceive, **but at this point can he please have some shame?**

This is the same guy who filed a grievance against the Sixers to get his money back for not showing up for half the season. Tired of this guy

It’s direspectful to the game to sit on an NBA bench and not contribute to the team for 2 years.

It’s disrespectful to the game to demand a trade and sit out like he did in Philly.

If you didn’t want to feel “disrespected”, you should have retired and forfeited the rest of the contract.

You have to earn the respect of the fans.

    I don’t respect you. I never will.

Two subjects I’m tired of talking about on this sub: kyrie and Ben.

Ben, just use it as fuel. That’s it. Use it as fuel to prove everyone wrong

I do think it’s untrue and childish to accuse him of robbery and when people act as if it’s “mental weakness” or a lack of any desire to play and an active plan on his part to get money for nothing rather than actual injuries that have made his play and attendance not worth the contract.

That being said, no, it’s not going to catch up to anybody; anyone who gave or gives or will give him shit on the internet – fair or not, right or wrong – will not be affected by that action in any meaningful way now or in the future. No one who would feel a meaningful amount of guilt about such inconsequential trash talk would probably not be the sort of person to make such trash talk to begin with.

In Simmons version of the story, he didn’t pass up the dunk in the playoff and sit out the next year because he was afraid of the Phlly fans. It’s all about his back. But if those other things didn’t happen first, no one would be questioning his desire to play.
