[K.C. Johnson] This is celebration of Rose. As for jersey retirement, nobody wears No. 1 anymore so it’s unofficially retired. But as far as official, source: still being discussed

They better not fuck this up. Just retire it. Zero people will have an issue with it

Just retire the number ffs

For how much they racked up the prices I rather go to a jersey retirement than a celebration of them showing highlights during half time.

MVP is an immense honor in any sport. But I think it’s most meaningful in basketball. You can give the ball to your MVP every single time. And there are no flukes. No guys who had an uncharacteristically great departure from otherwise “good” careers. Everyone who has an NBA MVP is amongst the greatest to lace up.
D Rose was on his way to that. There’s no question he’d wind up there if his body allowed it. Would be a complete miss to not retire his jersey.
I at least have to imagine the next owner will see it that way, as would most any rational thinker. But with Jerry at the helm…idk.

You can’t have Derrick Rose night and then not hang his number in the rafters when you do so.

Any fan who watched him in his prime wants his jersey retired. I wouldn’t like seeing another Bull wearing number 1

Put it in the rafters! The last Bull to wear #1 is Benny.

I can see both arguments tbh. I don’t think he did enough as a player for it. But he is from Chicago so..

He should get his number retired. The youngest MVP in history. 3x all star. The Bulls are too strict for number retirements, Jerry Sloan, Bob Love, Jordan, and Pippen are our only retired numbers. He is one of only two Bulls to win MVP with us. I don’t think anyone else from these teams should get their number retired, but Rose is by far above them. The only other Bull that deserves a number retirement is Artis Gilmore.

I don’t like retiring numbers. Make players live up to the numbers. If we are going to retire numbers, then retire Roses. He means more than just the Bulls, he’s also a Chicago native representing the city.
