Donte DiVincenzo on the narrative that he was unhappy in New York:

“Obviously everyone wants to start coming off the season I had last year, but I also understand that there’s different lineups and different combinations that teams want to get to – I understand that. It was never a thing of, ‘Oh, we got Mikal, I’m pissed off.’ I was super excited,” DiVincenzo told The Post. “Take the Villanova s–t out of it, I was super excited because we have a very good player coming back to the team. And you get OG [Anunoby] back, now you’re looking at, ‘Wow we’re going to be really good.’ There was never a conversation of my role was going to be diminished. There was never a role that my minutes would be diminished. It was the outside assumption and ran with it and it was untrue.”

Even with Mikal added to the team there was no way Donte was going to play less than 28 or so mins a game. Still would have been a huge cog of the team

He’s gone because he’s a good player and the Knicks wanted a better player in KAT. It’s that simple. We had a HUGE need at center and back up SG wasn’t a big deal or add as much value since we had/have in house options to mitigate that. We had nothing in house to start at center.

All the other BS is NY Media trying to sell papers/get clicks.

Donte and Julius played with a certain force and energy that I will miss. Best of luck to them except against the Knicks

  4. Does anyone know who was the first to report he was unhappy? Was it Ian Begley?

  5. It stings but you move on. Just wishing him the best

Well, looking now, it appears that had we kept him, he probably WOULDVE started had he not been included. I assumed we would’ve started Mikal at SG and down the line in a big lineup. But as it appears, we plan on playing smallball with Mikal and OG at the 3-4. So he would’ve probably started over Hart at the 2. Hart only plays there now, or basically starts( as he’s everything from the 2 to the 4, in DVC absence.

yeah that sounded like bullshit when i heard it

Shame the poor guy even has to respond to that bullshit and justify it…. He’s a great one

damn this just makes me even more bummed he’s gone. I think he would have had a role larger than the one he started the year with (20 mpg backup) but less than the role he ended the year with (36mpg, debatably our #2 offensive option when both OG and Randle were out). I think as a guy who will never be a given to play 36 mpg on a contender, his willingness to play a slightly smaller role on a championship caliber team is commendable. I will miss his energy, defense, and shooting. He’s a phenomenal player. Hope he plays well and gets himself a bag.

He’s been traded from contender to contender the past few years, what a unique situation to be in
