Zach Edey vs the Pacers – 23/9/1 on 10-15 FG in 19 minutes played

Zach Edey showed out tonight, returning to Indiana for the first time since his collegiate career ended. Since Indy is only a short drive away from West Lafayette, many Purdue fans showed up to the game and cheered Edey on despite him playing for the away team.

Myles Turner is a bum, his game won’t translate to the next level /s

  2. Team_Ed

He’s passing the eye test against legit NBA opponents, on both sides of the ball.

  3. bleh610

They really said a 300 pound 7’4 dude wouldn’t translate

  4. Classics22

torching mfers. the west is so brutal

  5. Ziti_Pasta

We might be looking at the next great center in the league. Is that an overreaction?

  6. Sphinx524

I’m glad to see a behemoth center playing significant minutes in the league again.

All this small ball over the past decade has made me miss watching them

  7. Turbo2x

His touch on those hook shots is so good

  8. NeatTry7674

I haven’t forgot his draft night thread. I kept receipts you casuals.

  9. Thunder-ten-tronckh

Dropping to 9 might have weirdly been a blessing

Edey was the most sure thing by far. If the lakers had found a way to trade up, I’d have been thrilled. Rooting for you Memphis.

It’s truly remarkable what a 7’4 guy who can actually post score efficiently can do. It’s almost like it was the dominant form of offensive for the first 70 years of the NBA or something. I think he needs to shoot 7 more 3s a game at 32% please!

  12. outsidehere

If he fell in the draft, I wanted the Lakers to get him

  13. I don’t know if I ever posted it, but I always knew this guy would do fine in the NBA.

  14. xUNIFIx

How much of it was against wiseman though?

    Serious question

Cause I had to watch way to much wiseman last year and that dude sucks ass

I said it in the game thread but I’ll never understand how scouting works. According to pre draft scouts, he would have been completely unplayable in the league. I know it’s pre season but he still looks legit.

  16. I thought all the experts were saying that he’s supposed to be a bust?

  17. girlscoutcookies05

That first Memphis scuffle gonna be absolute cinema

  18. _Jetto_

so now we know if fuckign edey is doing these numbers imagine prime shaq. je woudl legit warp the 3pt meta and force teams to go back to 90s

  19. New_Essay_4869

If he can just be the fourth best plauer for the Grizzlies long-term, that would be amazing

  20. The-Pharcyde

His movements look good and doesnt look out of place at all for being such a massive guy. Should be big for the Grizz this season.

Didn’t watch the game but looked at the minutes allocation on the box score, so this is an earnest question to people who watched:

How many minutes did he play against actual NBA big men? Like, was he lighting up Enrique Freeman and James Wiseman? Or did he actually body Myles Turner regularly?

I think Edey will be an absolute superstar in the NBA. I hopped on the bandwagon in the tournament. I haven’t seen a single person stop this man and I still haven’t. He may not be able to shoot 3s but if you can go almost 70% in the paint on 15 shots then it doesn’t matter.

Just throw the ball into the paint and let him score. There will be probably only 3 players who can defend him in the paint.

  23. Seanbig888

Dude got that jokic touch on that hook shot it is just soft and rolls in… future all nba at this rate fellas

  24. Seanbig888

That fiba game when edey went like 6/6 made me have hope for him as an nba player . It was his defense vs the team USA that made me pause in 2023.

If he can get his angles on defense anywhere close to gasol – watch out

  25. Chessh2036

I know it’s only preseason but this rookie class has looked sharp. Edey, Risacher, Sheppard, Sarr, Bub Carrington, etc has all looked good and flashes moments.

  26. robAtReddit

The double will eventually come. He needs to work on his vision. If he develops that, he will be unstoppable.

  27. CrissCrossAppleSos

So dope to see a player of his height capable of scoring efficiently in the NBA with some self creation

  28. And yall said his skills wouldn’t translate to the NBA. This man will be ROTY

  29. jgroove_LA

This kid gonna save Team USA in 2028

I was super high on Edey heading into the draft. Thought his mocked rankings were a solid 5 or so spots low and he deserved a look in the top 5. Sadly I don’t think there was really ever any chance the Kings were going to get him, either because he would be picked ahead or because they simply weren’t looking for a player of his mold. He got closer than I would have thought tbh.

But the ceiling on Edey is unreal. His athleticism for a guy his size is approaching the level of a guy like Arvydas pre-NBA, the NBA itself really hasn’t seen a physical force like Edey since Shaq. (Not that Edey is quite at that level of course, just that you have to go back that far to see a guy that likely meets or exceeds Edey’s overall physical combination of size + athleticism.) There are obviously questions about his ability to keep up with NBA players on the perimeter plus his shooting, but like, when you’re as big, strong, and athletic as Edey, and with the kind of touch and post game he has, you don’t need to do anything outside the paint. Maybe screen and pass. Did anyone ever criticize Shaq for not being able to shoot 3s or match up against guards on the perimeter? Of course not lmao
