“Some of the guys I’ve been watching growing up, I’m not disappointed but I’m like ‘Argh… That’s it?’ But some of them, like KD… I’ve got to know Rudy [Gobert] with the national team; I know their work ethic, how they view the game, and it’s really inspiring and I want to do the same” – Wemby

I don’t get it
Mentality of a champion. Of a winner.
bets on who didn’t live up to expectations?
For context, he’s talking about the work ethic of some players he used to look up to and that for some it’s disappointing.

I could see a number of older players coming across as comparatively lazy due to not wanting to put too much strain on their bodies.

Shaq’s adding Victor to his list
lol when wembys body breaks down I hope all of these comments resurface.
Some of you guys in here need to chill. He’s just talking about how he was disappointed to learn Some of the very best in the game Don’t have the kind of insane work ethic He assumed they did. He asked a question and he answered it.
And it’s very on brand for him as someone who is obsessively devoted to his craft. Instead of trying to clown on him, make weird comments about how he’s going to get injured, or make salty comments about how many wins he had as a teenage rookie how about we just appreciate that the league has a freakish young talent who obviously really really wants to improve and maximize his gifts.
Because that’s not always the case And it’s a real bummer for everyone when players don’t have the drive to maximize their natural gifts
KD is your favourite player’s favourite player
Bron and Steph swinging at the air
If you watch the full video, he’s just talking about work ethic. Everybody talks about how mature Victor is and how much work he puts into things, so that’s probably what he relates to the most when finding guys to look up to.
Other NBA players have brought this up before, that some guys really just aren’t attempting to level up all the time.
I’d love to know who he thinks is lazy.
Spurs were blessed with the number 1 pick they were destined to have.
On the one hand, Wemby is definitely on another plane of existence. His work ethic, natural talents, and maturity put him up there with the greats already in terms of potential.
On the other hand, this is the charm and naivety of the youth. We’ll see what happens after Victor hits the walls, the injuries, and meets the one undefeated champion (time). He’s 20. That’s why players like Kobe, LeBron, and MJ were legendary workers—they did it every day for decades.
Man, just leave Ben Simmons alone.
Spoilers: It’s Ron artest
I love this kid’s mentality. He has the work ethic, maturity and vision to be exceptional but he also manages to stay pretty grounded.
It’s not uncommon for the high work-ethic guys to develop a bit of toxicity with their teammates. MJ and Kobe held themselves to a very high standard and understandably resented anybody who wouldn’t do the same.
Wemby seems to hold *himself* to that high standard but manages to maintain some humility with his teammates. That story about him being invited on stage at a Drake show but refusing unless his teammates could join shows a lot about how he relates to his peers.
I’m genuinely excited to see him continue to develop both as a player and a leader.
I like wemby, but he carries this ‘holier than thou’ attitude and it can be a little off putting to some.
Harden, Kawhi, come first to mind
It’s weird to me that this sub is so high on Wemby considering he seems like a good person. Didn’t think y’all vibed with modern players who talk like they have actual baseline intelligence.
Who… like Carmelo?? Lamarcus Aldridge??
This kid’s virtue signaling is really something the league will be bored of very soon.
I gotta admit. I’m not really a fan of his personality.
WIth that talk you better get a ring in the next 3 seasons Wemby lol
