Santi Aldama sparks Memphis Grizzlies opening night win over Utah Jazz

Winning games in the NBA isn’t easy. That’s been especially true for the Memphis Grizzlies on opening nights historically – and it’s also been true of late in Utah. But Memphis silenced the Jazz on opening night thanks in large part to the efforts of Santi Aldama, Ja Morant, and Desmond Bane. Host Joe Mullinax discusses that, plus the areas of growth for Zach Edey and Jaylen Wells, on this episode of Locked on Grizzlies!

  1. Memphis should did not get Edey involved much in the offense. That might have boosted his confidence on both sides.

  2. The Santi Surprise game was a treat to watch! If he can find a way to play this way consistently behind and along Trip, we're in for a REALLY good season! The rooks will be fine. They'll adjust to the increased intensity. PippJr needs to be more solid. Good start for the guys tho!🔥🔥

  3. I was actually disappointed with the offense. They did not look for Edey at all. A few times Edey sealed his defender down low and they didn't even look his way. Once Edey fouled out Jazz tied the game right away because nobody was able to box out Kessler or Markennen. Edey stayed active around the Basket on both sides unfortunately he got alot of foul calls. We got lucky depending on Ja too much and we shot really good from 3s.
But i wish we would utilize Edey more and punish other teams down low atleast 10 to 15 percent of the offense. Edey draws alot of attention too bad the coaches don't really want to use his skills.
Huff did great shooting but nobody really scared of him blocking shots or boxing out.

  4. I see best case for Santi is being a six man of the year candidate like a Naz Reed. If that happens the grizz will roll this year.

  5. I would take Huff over Clark. Clark is athletic but that is about it.
Average rebounder, average defense. Offense (besides dunking) non-existent

  6. Kessler came in on a message. Collins got in his head.Zac was intimidated. Even when he got the rebound at the rim he went up soft with it.

  7. Edey should be encouraged, he will have many opportunities to show what he’s capable of. No rookie had a great first game yesterday. He is our difference maker this year. Keep it up big guy.

  8. Edey needs his touches but I know as a rookie he has to earn that. It’ll all come together and he will find his role.

  9. I’m a little concerned for Edey on defense. I know he is a rookie, but it looked like the speed was too much for him

  10. UTAH STINKS….they are a MAJOR TANK TEAM…..The west is loaded!…..Grizz not that impressive against the LOWLY JAZZ!!!!

  11. Just want to note since I’ve heard from a few people that Kessler “cooked” edey… Kessler only scored on edey twice and edey grabbed a couple of o boards over Kessler

  12. Jenkins is so cautious with minutes he’s totally willing to throw a game away. Ja and bane should have been 31 minutes, even Santi playing 35 minutes when he’s so hot. Bit this is Jenkins, he’s ridiculously cautious.

Many of our injuries right now are just being way overly cautious.

You will never win with that type of timidity. You may be really good, but the teams that win a chip are willing to play their stars 36 minutes regularly and 40 if you need it.

  13. Not a fan of hectic offensive pace NBA teams play. In transition yes, odd man situation:yes, specific advantages: yes. Seen Edey struggle in first 10 minutes of a game plenty of times. Obviously in NBA, you dont get as long a leash.

  14. Good win for the Grizz. Hopefully we continue to get Olympics/FIBA Santi.
It would've been better to give Huff a guaranteed contract, instead of Pippen Jr. Bigs are more of a need than small PGs, especially with all the ball handlers on this team.

  15. Mane I've had high hopes for santi and it's starting to show.he's going to be one of our major threats off the bench
