Orlando Magic’s biggest weakness costs them their first loss

Can the Orlando Magic overcome their biggest weakness? With 19 turnovers leading to 30 points for the Memphis Grizzlies, the Magic’s turnovers woes were a glaring issue. After last season when they were among the worst teams protecting possessions, this feels like a battle the Magic will be waging all season. 1. from watching highlights, it seems like we didn't scout very well for this team. we looked lost a lot on defense.

  2. Magic suffer first loss of season in Memphis 124-111. MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Santi Aldama scored 22 points, reserve center Jay Huff added a career-high 18 and the Memphis Grizzlies built a 26-point halftime team in a 124-111 victory over the Orlando Magic on Saturday night in their home opener very frustrating game for Magic team and fans yes the turnovers was the big issue 🥺😢

  3. McClung instead of Anthony!!
This one was on the coach, back to back games and where is the bench? The starters got tired after that run in the 3rd quarter.

  4. Orlando committed 19 turnovers for 30 Memphis points on Saturday. The Grizzlies scored 24 fast-break points on top of that. The Magic had seven turnovers each in the first two quarters for 21 points off turnovers in the first half. That is why the Magic found themselves in a hole.

  5. I listen to the game on 96.9 The Game over the internet. But I am not worry yet since it only the 3rd Game of the Season and so I still have faith in this team.

  6. The biggest thing I saw was we need rim shot blocking enforcer on defense. Someone to make players think twice coming in the paint. Turnovers didn’t help either. Our bigs aren’t high flying shot blockers beside JI. Also Poalo and Franz needs to be more active trying block shots at 6”10 height on defense

  7. Poor Jalen could not find any teammates who wanted to white knuckle this thing with him tonight and the team did not get the benefit of a sloppy game as they normally do. With his co-stars showing either a lack of faith or effort whenever he had to initiate in the half court.

Jalen at least brought to energy tonight as we make it 6 regular season games in a row where we cannot score more than 2 points a minute for the first six minutes of a half and 3 games in a row where Jalen has cursed at a fan sitting courtside.

Maybe it was that Jaren had 2 fouls but Taylor Jenkins begins to stagger his stars less than 4 minutes into this game and less than 6 minutes into this game it's just Desmond Bane and a bench lineup vs all of our starters and a 6 point lead which then stretches to 11.

Then 8 minutes into the game Mosley responds to Jenkins first 6 substitutions by subbing in his 6th and 7th man. Stopping the run and reducing the deficit to 7. Cole Anthony gets into the game one minute later and the deficit grows to 10 as he throws away his own steal and Jay Huff gets the first 6 of his 18 against a frontcourt of Paolo and Moritz who both gave up an and 1 layup at the rim in a 6-9 swing with Ja back on the court just a minute and a half after Cole.

Coach sees that Jenkins has Marcus Smart and Jaren Jackson set to join Ja Morant vs our bench unit and so he decides to make his garbage time substitution of Jett Howard to signal to Jenkins that he is ready to begin peace negotiations. Waving the white flag just 12 minutes of play after the game started and taking Paolo off the floor to join Franz on the bench.

I'm sure that Jenkins staggered his stars because of this AB guy the entire NBA seems to be talking about and has nothing to do with a guy who has a reputation for beating NBA teams while surrounded by g-leaguers, substitute teachers, and reclamation projects.

Goga comes in for some rim protection finally but it's not enough to slow down Memphis as the Grizzlies lead grows another 3 points with Cole's teammates going 2/5 from the field and Cole getting yanked off of the floor for committing his 2nd turnover as the only person that coach ever holds accountable for such crimes. Even the Memphis scorekeeper gives Jalen a pass for his turnovers as some are missing from the box score entirely. Grizzlies lead increases by 3.

Once Franz takes over for Cole the rest of the starters trickle in and Morant leaves less than 2 minutes later with Smart and Jackson following just 2 minutes after that. Leaving just Desmond Bane and his bench once again vs all of the Magic starters as the deficit grew from 15 to 18.

Then our brilliant leader calls a timeout and does not make a single substitution for his team but allows Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson to enter the game for the last 2 minutes in which the Memphis lead grows to 26 on an 8-0 run to end the half.

Magic starters make no progress on the deficit at all as it grows to 29 before Jaren Jackson is taken off the floor at the 7 minute mark in which Ja tries to stat pad but misses all of his shots as the Memphis lead is now down to 21 by the time Morant leaves at the 5 minute mark.

Once again it is Bane and the bench against our starters but this time they are tired of backyard wrestling after the Magic get a few foul calls and they sag all the way off daring Jalen and Franz to shoot. Jalen and Franz hit a bunch of fake news 3's in what was already an orchestrated surrender. Bringing the lead all the way down to 8.

Which triggered coach Jenkins to look over at Mosley and say WTF? So he puts Jaren back in and the Memphis lead quickly grows back to 12 to end the 3rd. Jenkins sends Marcus Smart and Ja Morant to the scorers table to meet with their opponent Cole Anthony and check in for the 4th quarter to join Jaren Jackson on the floor.

Mosley sees this and once again waves the final white flag by making his garbage time substitution of Jett Howard and taking Paolo and Franz off the floor. Cole and Ja have a nice little back and forth with an assist and a field goal each.

But sadly nobody told Cole and all you Sixth Men out there that there would be no comeback as a treaty had already been agreed to. So we had to spend more time than Cole Anthony played talking about his technical foul in the postgame podcast. Without even mentioning that Coach did the exact same thing the night before in a closer game.

I would be willing to bet this coach has never gotten a technical foul on Cole Anthony's behalf before but the Memphis lead grows by 3 points in a less than 3 minute stretch in which Memphis made 6 free throws with Cole on the floor. Paolo and Franz come back in for Cole and Jett after Cole's first missed shot of the game and the deficit goes nowhere until Coach calls a timeout to allow Memphis to take their starters off of the floor as he puts his starters back on the floor. But that doesn't even help as the lead grows from 15 to 24 before we enter full blown garbage time.

Full blown garbage time goes on for 3 minutes in which the 24 point deficit does not budge until the final substitutions at the 2 minute mark at which point things turn into a sideshow carnival act and the Magic are able to make five three pointers that was ultimately a sadder state of affairs for the Magic than the guy they were scoring on.

(Don't worry I'm tracking the garbage time over the season).

Cole Anthony plays 8 minutes of a game in which he was snapping the net. Leaving this writer to question if this organizations stated ethos of being patient with player development is actually what's best for the player and not just a bunch of hokey nonsense to cover for the team's concerns.

    Game 3 Memphis Grizzlies
Team 95 points scored and 97 points allowed in 40 minutes and 23 seconds without Cole
