Turnovers, transition defense haunt Minnesota Timberwolves in loss to Mavericks
The Minnesota Timberwolves won most of the box score against the Dallas Mavericks, but 20 turnovers and lackadaisical transition defense was enough to lose the game. Ben Beecken (@bbeecken) breaks down the defensive woes in the open floor and on the secondary break, as well as the overall lapses on the perimeter. Offensively, the Wolves shot the ball well — but the turnovers mounted far too quickly. Also: Anthony Edwards’s 24-point first quarter was wasted in the loss.

I believe giving Ant a little more responsibility to get others involved will help him and the team to not settle and he can feed off Randle's gravity when he wants to get those 3's off.
Jaden is just not a strong enough presence at the 3 starting. I want him off the bench as a slasher when they go 5 out.
Conley at 37 should be preserved ..
Donte should start because he's really struggling but he also struggled last season with the Knicks off the bench.
His opportunity to start came from a Quentin Grimes injury and he took off . Donte started in pre season and looked like himself.
You can't have Jalen, Donte, & Walker being a non factor from the 3pt line.
Walker stepped up at the end but needed those buckets sooner. From at least 4 of our guys outside of Ant and Julius
It’s clear the wolves offense needs a “true point guard” type player to control the flow of the offense. Mike has seemed to drop off this season. Ant, Nickeil and Donte have been ineffective in that role. With no other options left I don’t see why we don’t just give Dillingham a shot.

This team is headed back to the play-in tournament if they're lucky, the KAT trade destroyed ANY chance of them getting back to the WCF's. Glen Taylor has ruined this franchise yet again, anything to save a dollar.
Il va falloir que JR s'intègre dans le système défensif, il est plus facile de briller en attaque quand tu te reposes en défense. Il réclame une meilleure RIM protection alors mets y tu tien JR et arrête d'expliquer à Gobert comment défendre. Ses interactions avec Gobert me font craindre de mauvaises choses pour l'équipe. J'espère que je me trompe.

the new guys haven't quite found their way in the defence. a lot of the mavs transition buckets were with randle sleeping as last man back, while gobert was fighting in the paint, and a guard was watching the other guard, so the mavs big man slips back. donte didnt rotate well too. I think its good the O is running well, as finch says too, but the D which is this team's signature looks like its going to take time to gel. but all in all, its a repetition of the WCF, when the mavs just rolled over the wolves like they were never good at D. mistakes abound all over the court on D, but then again u r facing 2 of the best offensive guards in the league.
As of right now, the way this team is constructed its gonna be a loooong and heartbreaking szn unless a good trade is made
Jaden should be shooting better and Julius defensive effort could be better in transition. Also finch needs to chill with Ingles minutes
The wolves had the fresher legs and were firing out of the gate. I think it’s safe to say the Mavs are just the better team.
The defense is getting torched from all this drop coverage and not getting up on the screens. Gamble and get torched.
Antman always runs out of fuel against the Mavs 😑. Last night He seems unstoppable after the 1st quarter then disappears until the very end of the 4th.
ca va être dur pour Gobert de jouer à côté de Randle. Pour la défense en transition, ce n'est pas au pivot qui joue le rebond offensif de faire le repli à fond. Randle pourrait faire bouger ses jambes. La différence dans l'activité défensive entre Randle et Reid est énorme. En fait, à ce jour avec Randle sur le terrain, Mc Daniels, Gobert et même Reidne sont pas très utiles. On voit bien que Randle veut jouer principalement pour lui après avoir arrêté le mouvement et puis de chercher en priorité Edwards. C'est sûr que tu es frais en attaque quand tu dors un peu en défense. La nouvelle philosophie offensive axée sur le tir à 3 points fait que sur les tirs ratés les arrières doivent être vigilants sur le repli défensif. Les rebonds sont plus longs et permettent de donner de la vitesse à la transition de l'adversaire. L'intérieur qui joue le rebond offensif ne peut pas revenir en même temps que les autres. Les pertes de balles sont principalement dues au fait de vouloir donner plus de rythme avec des prises de décisions plus rapides. Bon après ce n'est que le début, en espérant que Finch demande à Randle de s'impliquer sérieusement en défense et qu'il arrête de stopper le ballon à chaque fois. De temps en temps oui bien sûr mais pas tout le temps.

Now it’s a regular season game and we beat Dallas 3 times last season. I am not to worried about it now. We are still trying to figure how to play with eachother. One thing I would take away from that game is Dallas has nobody who can guard Ant in their starting lineup. Luka and Klay were cones out there and if they are going to put PJ on Ant we need to clear out the post for Randle and let him work. I think they will have to make more adjustments in a 7 game series than we would after last night.
The Wolves are trying to be something they are not. They are not a fast team, so stop trying to run up the court to shoot the ball in 5 seconds. A slower pace should allow them to set up their defense and improve defensive rebounding. The Wolves need to abandon the drop defense in the paint. Said defense negates the value of Gobert.
