Which free agent will the rockets pick up to complete the team in 2023?

We will have around 45 to 75 million in available cap space for the โ€˜23 season. On top of an already promising young core we will be able to add a top tier player(s) to come in and lead once we are ready to compete. With that being said who do you feel would be the best max level veteran that can be plugged into our team?

This is gonna be a tough question to answer before this season plays out. Our needs could be very different depending on if guys like KPJ, Sengun, Tari and TyTy or Nix establish themselves as long term pieces. Guys I preliminarily have my eye on Khris Middleton, Myles Turner, Wiggins, Poole, and DLo. (Obviously most of these guys aren’t max players, but 2023 has few max players available).

I honestly think though, that the biggest splash will be made via trade if we make a huge splash.

They need to make sure they have the money to keep their guys long term. They have too much talent to lose for free agents. They already have log jams at multiple positions. Are there even any good pickups that would make sense for them?

Rather just pay who we have, they all seem very all star potential except maybe KPJ

Iโ€™d go after a vet point like Conley to come off the bench. Maybe put a little on top for a bench role. Throw in some incentives if he helps us get to the play in or playoffs. 3yr deal with team option 3rd year. He could help train KPJ, Green, Tyty for 2 years

    KPJ/Conley/Tyty

    Green/Christopher

    Tari/Gordon/lotto pick

    Jabari/Tate/lotto pick

    Sengun/Bruno or free agent

I think we extend Gordon for a bench role and go get a vet leader like Conley to come off the bench even if you have to slightly overpay. The development is worth it

I donโ€™t see anyone I care for to take the starting SF spot from Tari. Just a couple solid vets on the bench

I’d love it if we could somehow get Khris Middleton but I think he’s got a fat player option and probably won’t decline

It would be smarter saving the money to resign key players

Too early to tell. It will depend on how our prospects develop this season. It will also depend on our lottery results. If we somehow got Wemby, for example, we wouldnโ€™t really be in the market for a center.

Someone made a good point about extensions. We have a lot of players who could command big salaries in the future. In order to avoid an OKC situation where they lost Harden we need to be prudent with our spending. Iโ€™d rather not make a big splash in FA for a while. If our current core can start making the playoffs then I think it would be worthwhile to evaluate cap space and making some signings. But as of now this team isnt even ready for the play in. Why waste money on a big name when we still need to develop?
