Stick, Darren McCarty and Terry Foster share their thoughts on whether or not the current Detroit Pistons have the potential to be the NEW Bad Boy Pistons. The Pistons are led by Cade Cunningham, Saddiq Bey and Rookie Jaden Ivey who was selected Fifth Overall in the 2022 NBA Draft. Terry believes the current group is tighter than the Bad Boy Pistons. Bey is easy to be forgotten. He plays 2 passive when he isn't the number 1 scoring option
I dont think Ivey is just going to sit there and think Cade is the #1 guy. He wants to be MJ and wants Cade to be Pippen
As someone who grew up watching the Bad Boys, this team will have a hard time being that kind of team. If you want to compare to the "Going to Work" Pistons…. cool. No beef with that. The new Bad Boys? Uh…. no.
You have to remember that the Bad Boy Pistons were UNIVERSALLY hated by everyone in the league EXCEPT by Pistons fans… particularly metro Detroiters. The Bad Boys played a VERY PHYSICAL game, and didn't mind mucking it up with anybody. As a direct result of that level of physicality, The Bad Boys had a target on their back not only by other franchises and cities… but even by the media. Don't believe me?
Ask Celtics, Bulls and Lakers fans who lived in that era what they thought about the Bad Boys. You will get a lot of angry glares. In fact, Jordan and Bird in particular still hate certain Bad Boys to this day. No matter what they did the Bad Boys were considered the Bad Guys in the eyes of the world So they embraced it they and lived up to the name by making everyone's lives miserable… except ours. 🙂
Also remember who epitomized the Bad Boys. It was they two guys on the front of the Bad Boys shirt. Bill Laimbeer and Rick Mahorn. Look at how they played and ask yourself…. does this team resemble that? My answer would be no.
Do I think this team has potential? Absolutely. Do I think these guys could forge a identity in keeping with the spirit of Metro Detroit? For sure. Can they do great things in the coming years? Definitely. Do they have that tight knit bond that championship teams need? Perhaps, but time will tell.
Make no mistake though. There will only be one pistons team that should bear the name "Bad Boys". Thomas, Dumars, Laimbeer, Rodman, Salley, Mahorn, Johnson, Edwards, Aguirre….. Those guys were the Bad Boys. If you want to be associated that legendary group…. you've got a whole lot more work to do to get there. And that includes getting everyone (The League, Press, all other franchises AND their cities) to hate you… and beating them anyway.
Cade will not be better than Ivey. Cade is mid. It will be iveys team đź’Żđź’Żđź’Ż
if they could put up W’s it took the bad boys years to win championships then and only then would I label this young team the new bad boys in detroit ! if they can play like joe dumars isaiah thomas bill lambeer dennis rodman john sally and many bench players you could probably call them the new bad boys but until then nope ! 🤷‍♂️🤔
This team has a hellava long way to go before any comparison to the bad boys. The bad boys back to back championship run was a team that was so deep and with so many vets, it might be one of the greatest all around talent wise ever. This group detroit has, isn’t even close. Not even close. They may get there in 3-5 years but they may never get there. Too early to start blowing smoke.
