Very difficult decisions ahead for the coaching staff. You have to assume Banton has a spot, so who of Jackson, DJ Wilson (my preference) and the others takes that one spot? Wilson is 6’10”, great rebounder, versatile, strong defender, switchable, and more of a proven entity.
let go birch and champagne
Waive Hernangomez. Keep Jackson and Wilson.
If I were to asked, I would let go Birch and Thaddeus instead keep Dowtin and of course my fav Dalano Banton
Great energy Amit đź‘Ź
Banton, my other fave Justin keeps getting injured, maybe we can sign him for Raptors905 so that he can heal properly and get back his form.. He missed Summer league, missing pre-season… My other fave is DJ Wilson, his rebounding, his FT shooting is pure swoosh, and his 3ptr is there, help stretch the floor, and he can handle.. And we have seen him play for us during covid times and he was good until injured…6'10 is good.. I see Dowtin Jr being converted for playoffs runs later in the season…
Joshua Jackson is great too we can develop him some more… Joshua would be good with Scottie, Banton, OG, Precious, Koloko
We can develop both Gabe Brown and Joshua jackson some in our Raptors905. ..Gabe could add 3 level scoring, playmaking, and defense. Joshua can develop some 3pt shooting and defense…
I'm glad I don't have to choose
@amit the way hernangomez playing, even though he has a guaranteed contract. we seeing the journeyman of bo cruz in reality that puts up his career 4ppg average, who may have a game here and there rather than consistency. i think juancho hernangomez even though he has a guaranteed contract may get cut. He has a perimeter game that is hit or miss and that is basically the only advantage he has over a josh jackson or dj wilson, as he is not better in other areas.
if they cut juancho hernangomez and take the hit they can sign josh jackson. what we are seeing with dowtin and jackson is something really only siakam can do consistently last year and that was attack the rim. And we are seeing it callapses off defence and opens up guys for 3 pt shots rather than just have everyone line up on the 3 pt line and try to hit 3's. We saw alot of frustrating brickfests last year where the raptors were living and dying by the three.
in terms of justin champagnie just bad luck but although he showed alot of promise last year, he was also injured last year. not being able to play i believe josh jackson will take his spot
what may happen if they want to keep justin champagnie, they may just cut ron harper jr and give him the two way contract. ron harper hasnt shown much so i see him as the odd man out.
i think jeff dowtin showing he is a true pg, basically means malachi flynn is done in toronto as he is primarily just a shooter.
DJ Wilson has played well, its just there are not enough roster spots so it looks like he is the odd man out. barring a trade. I think DJ Wilson in an ideal world just takes Khem Birch's spot but barring a trade i dont see it happening.
only trade out there is maybe san antonio where you ship khem birch, and malachi flynn with a 1st and 2nd round pick for jakob poeltl.
another possible trade maybe khem birch and malachi flynn to jazz for nikeil alexander walker who isnt doing well in utah.
i believe giving juancho hernangomez a guaranteed contract was a mistake, and likely one they may have to eat to cut him. his career stats are actually similar to svi and even dj wilson. the identifying trait being his 3 pt shooting perimeter game, but defensively, getting rebounds and protecting the rim, i believe DJ Wilson is better.
But i believe Delano Bantan and Josh Jackson are on the team the way they are playing. DJ wilson is playing well, its just that he is not standing out like josh jackson. I would love the raptors to be able to sign all 3.
What a tough call on which player to keep. It is really unfortunate to not be able to see Justin play. I am feeling that Josh Jackson is the needed addition. He sure looked impressive against the Celtics. DJ looked good too, so who knows. The Raptors may just go with Justin who is youngest and continue with his development.
