Who Is The Best Fit For The Raptor's Backup Point Guard Position? Toronto Raptors Discussions!

I will be doing a full breakdown of who should be the backup point guard for the Toronto Raptors. I will be looking at Dalano Banton, Jeff Dowtin and Malachi Flynn and look at their different styles of plays of who is the best fit for the Raptors back up point guard position.

  1. In terms of fit, it's Banton without a doubt. However, he needs to show that his improved finishing, ball-handling, and shooting can translate to the regular season.

  2. Banton has the best defense capabilities with his physical tools. Malachi is a scoring guard who with more time can prove us his talents. Dowtin is a guy got the most skill but he's basically hit his ceiling. Since we want to contend but rebuilding at the same time trying different methods of game plans that fit each player late into the game might be smart

  3. D) Chris Boucher 6 Boards a game so far. Flynn just does not have the height to fit the team concept.

  4. For me banton is more of a 2 guard. He hasn’t shown enough play making for him to play point guard

  5. Boucher has been eating the most glass. Our preseason game v Boston, he had a double-double in less than 15 minutes!

  6. Nurse has repeatedly told Flynn to push the pace and he is either unable to do so or refuses to do so. Imo; Flynn is a non-fit with this particular team.

  7. I had the impression that Nurse preferred to play Banton rather than Nurse during the regular season last year because he thought Banton fit better into the Raptors lengthy lineup on defense. So Nurse sacrificed Flynn's shooting to get Banton's defence.

However I seem to recall Flynn looking relatively good in the playoff series
at defending against Maxey and/or Harden and dealing with their quickness.

But perhaps he just looked better in comparison to VanVleet trying to defend
against those players while playing on a badly injured knee.

In other words maybe Flynn wasn't that great at defending against fast guards –
Rather he just looked better than an injured guy who wasn't healthy enough to
keep up with fast opponents as they changed direction or accelerated.

  8. Glad to see your still making content! I don't think Dowtin has done enough to beat out Flynn or Banton. I don't see the Raptors keeping all 4 (with Freddy) so Dowtin goes to the 905 or another team picks him up. I think Banton brings so much potential that he beats out Flynn who gets traded this year to a team that fits his skills better.

  9. Early days. Summer camp, pre-season and competitive games are all different scenarios. Precious and Scotty had issues carrying and distributing the ball. Delano was more effective. His strengths were quick breaks and getting to the rim. Consistent scoring and finishes were additional issues for Precious and Scotty.
The Raps did well and were competitive whenever the starting 5 were together and played 1 or 2 periods. Offensive and defensive rebounding needs to be improved. When the 3 pt is not working, what is plan A, B, C?
Nurse and company tried and evaluated several line-up configurations. Some worked depending on which period it was used in. Others are a work in progress.
The Boston game indicated that we have to work on physical play. Overall, the coaching staff gave tryouts opportunities to be evaluated. Baring injuries, contracts, free agents, the final team formation will be interesting. For 22 -23, how will the Raps playing style be described.

  10. Flynn really need to show he capable of defending and hitting his shots or I think the raps are will to move on with the younger prospects having Barnes as the fail safe at the position

  11. I don’t think any of those guys are guaranteed the back up job. Nurse is never hesitant to switch guys and I expect all 3 of them to get minutes there. Baton would have the job lockdown if he was a better shooter but with the team currently struggling from 3 you need some kind of shooting there and I can see Nurse giving Flynn or Dowtin minutes there because they’re simply better shot makers than Dalano.

  12. I think.. the tricky part of deciding.. has to do with how good Flynn actually is? He's been hurt it seems.. for so much of the time.. but I bet the coaching staff and management keep waiting for him to play for an extended period. (which hasn't quite happened). I think it will be point guard by committee … but would not be surprised if Flynn ends up with the best individual performances of the three…

  13. No watching your video but Just wanna say: The "great" Malachi Flynn needs to get the hell out……out!!! It has been 3 years of bs……
