[Thorpe] “I talked to a player that played against Charlotte this preseason, and the player told me, “That team is trash because LaMelo Ball is trash.””

David Thorpe and the podcast hosts were talking about LaMelo and Charlotte, and mentioned this. Thorpe also talked about the current version of Ball being all style and not substance, competitiveness, toughness, nor winning. Said he needs to grow up to lead the team and care about winning.

wow someone is very salty about lamelo lol

  2. Trash player that virtually every team in the league would want if they could get him without giving up too much

    It’s a good thing 21 year olds don’t improve.

  4. bigbenis21

How dare this 21 year old be too immature to lead a lottery team to a playoff run!

Teams to have played the Hornets this pre-season are

    Celtics x2

    Pacers

    76ers

    Wizards

Personally I would find it funny if somebody from the Pacers or the Wizards was talking shit like this.

  6. I’m gonna guess it’s Montrezl, former teammate so he “knows” LaMelo, they just played yesterday (I know LaMelo didn’t) and it wouldn’t surprise me based on his reputation

Joke and salty comments aside, I think the player is talking more about LaMelo’s competitive attitude more than his skills. In contrast, a guy like Pat Bev is someone who may not be as skilled but has the competitive attitude to rally his teammates and sometimes yell at his teammates if they’re not doing their jobs.

Then again, it’s not fair to ask a 21 year old to be the vocal leader of your team unless that player is Luka.

  8. Imagine calling a 21 year old player trash this early in their career

    Oh wait….

I don’t agree or disagree but I’m gonna say this:

Anytime there’s been these kind of reports about whatever player, r/NBA and people in general were quick to criticize the source. And a few months/years later these reports always end up being truthful.

    We’ll see 🤷🏿‍♂️

Sometimes we forget how young these kids are. He literally just turned old enough to legally have a drink a couple months ago. Let the kid have fun and have Hayward and Rozier lead the team. His time will come soon enough.

Was he saying he *is* trash or looked trash in preseason?

LaMelo’s game is like his dads words – loud but lacking substance.

That player is probably a benchwarmer who is jealous of Lamelo lol

Wasn’t Trezz the one who was leaking all the clipper stuff after he left

This feels a lot like sour grapes, at the same token Melo is still a kid and doesn’t care for defense. Hate him or love him he is still one of most promising talents on the planet.

Montrezz Harell was the first person that came to my mind

I think that calling him “trash” is absurd and hyperbolic. Melo definitely has work to do on his game to be a truly elite player and team leader. I often find myself questioning his decision making and shot selection, and he still needs to be more assertive when it comes to getting into the paint and scoring tough buckets there. He has a bit of the Kemba issue that we as hornets fans are all too used to seeing: getting into the paint, putting up weak layup attempts, and then sliding across the floor looking for a foul that never comes. When you are a smaller or lankier player, you are not going to get the majority of those calls because it looks like fishing for fouls.

All that said, the dude is still very young and seems to be improving. I have faith in him to continue to improve and eventually gain that competitive edge.

    I’m old.

    I was thinking Otis Thorpe.
