Let’s talk Jaylin Williams

I know, I know. Jalen Williams has been getting all the hype, and for good reason. Amazing pick, great defender, play maker and can score, too. He’s a gem.

However, little has been said about Jaylin Williams. Which is looking like another amazing pick for you guys. He had a somewhat up and down Pre Season – mostly due to minute allocation. But when he played, he did well.

Like really, really well.

His court vision is amazing. He’s got incredible bball IQ on the defensive end, too. This doesn’t result in a lot of blocks (he doesn’t leave his feet that often), but he takes a lot of charges and get’s some deflections on drives and passes, too. He’ll probably average quite a bit more steals than he does blocks. Very active and talks a lot on defense.

Shooting, while not of the biggest importance, looked better than advertised as well. He hit a few long range shots, with good form.

Who do you compare him to? I see some glimpses of Al Horford in him. Actually a lot. College height and weight is identical. Wingspan almost identical too. Horford a bit better of a rim protector in college, but Jaylin much better at getting his hands on passes and wacky dribbles in the lane. I think their pro-games might trend more towards each other as Jaylin develops.

The big long-term question, is obviously, can Jaylin and Chet play together? I think they would be able to, especially as Jaylin gets another year of development in the pros. Will they? I doubt it – Jaylin probably will be a backup mostly.

Nice write up. I’m a fan. Given that smile, how can you not like the kid. I see him being a part of the rotation with Chet and JRE

  2. Don’t see Jaylin near the starting lineup but as a backup i think he will have a great career
