I’m tired of the Draymond slander. Does no one remember just a few months ago when he was injured and the narrative was that we are horrible without him? We went 19-17 without him.

I think there’d be 99% less slander if he hadn’t sucker punched a teammate between now and then.

  2. park7911

His actions are the reason for the “slander.” He put himself in this situation.

  3. CarryOnUptheMorning

He did something stupid He’s still easily the best defensive player in the league and absolutely perfect for the way the warriors play so yeah stop the hate and get back to winning basketball games instead and enjoying it.

  4. a-fucking-telephone

I get people are rightfully upset about the Poole situation, but people are acting like he’s a scrub around here.

  5. TepidShark

While it has diminished in recent years, generally no one has an issue with his on the court play but you have to put up with a lot of BS with him and this latest incident is pushing the limit of is it worth it.

  6. zprymate

Some fans are just ungrateful. If your son or father or friend did this… you will let them know that it’s not cool… but you aren’t going to make it sound like he is a rapist or a murderer who needs to be locked up.

  7. FirstSorrow

Curry was in the worst slump of his life. Was curry missing free throws because Dray was out? Also klay was playing terrible at the time. Tell the whole story bro.

  8. Weird_Pomegranate_39

You new to Reddit? People were trying to bench Curry last season

  9. SeekingSignificance

Nobody is arguing that he sucks or we don’t need him. I don’t get why people keep bringing up his importance as if that’s why people are upset with him instead of him sucker punching a younger player and teammate.

  10. Consistent_Internal5

He is absolutely essential to the offense as a facilitator, rebounder, and screener. He’s definitely not “expendable,” given our style of play.

People are upset enough with what he did to not want him on the team anymore. It may mean we have to figure out how to win without him. Two things can be true at the same time.

  11. Do you remember when Draymond cost Golden State a championship in Cleveland?

  12. thingaumbuku

I know what he brings to the team; I’m just sick of his shit, that’s all.

  13. LongJumpingSkyGecko

Preach. Stop hating the greatest defensive player of our generation! 😤

  14. Nessmuk58

Draymond the PLAYER is immensely valuable. Draymond the PERSON is frequently a dick, an emotionally-retarded man-child.

I don’t buy the narrative that we can’t win without him. We would have to ADAPT our style of play on both ends, because we are attuned right now to optimizing Draymond’s unique talents on both ends right now. That’s why we lose when he is SUDDENLY absent, but it’s not a good test for how we COULD do if he was permanently absent.

I’d like to see him stay, but if he’s determined to get a big payday, we have to be prepared to cut him loose.

Im more interested in the team winning championship rather than an altercation that only serves to fuel fans need for drama. When a team gets a championship, everyone benefits.

Of course not condoning the assault but lets not have a knee jerk reaction on what is hopefully an one off incident. Draymond is still crucial to the teams success.

  16. Dizzy-Community5091

So basically Draymond has split the Warriors fan base (much like the rest of our county has been already). But now there are two sides. 1. Winning at all cost is acceptable. Or 2. Fuck Draymond for being a bully coward sucker punching a kid 60 lbs lighter than him. Because the reality is without Draymond there are no rings. Losing to Cleveland in the finals shows what happens. Had a 3-1 lead, lost Draymond then momentum.

  17. bananadude19

Are you the type that defends a wife beater because he takes care of his family financially? Draymond is important to the warriors. He also has an out of control temper problem. Imagine you’re a dad and he sucker punched your son.

  18. MegaJ0NATR0N

Does his value on the basketball court excuse punching a teammate? We all know he helps the team but that doesn’t mean he can do whatever he wants without consequences

pretty sure its the new fans that are on the anti dray crusade, and i hope dray recognizes that. kerr in the presser even indicated that dray has earned his right to be back into the fold of the team. what he did was wrong, but the incessant social media memes and anti dray crusade amongst even the warriors crowd imo is coming from the newer fanbase. dray was one of the main driving force in getting us 4 chips

  20. AGSYCFCC

You should also factor in the effect of integrating shot chucking Klay at the moment, but Dray is still crucial to this team’s success tho.

  21. draymond is crucial. i’d let klay go before draymond, based on current skills. unclear how draymond will age though, and the lack of self control is a recurring issue even though it has been worth it on balance to the tune of 4 championships. i was really looking forward to very strong play from him this year since he’s up for a new contract.

  22. BearAKA17

    Steph, Poole, Klay, Wiggins, Wiseman

I love Dray but with Kuminga and Wiseman hopefully emerging this season and Loon locked up…his days are numbered. We have Wiggins taking a paycut and Dray saying he wants the max. Some of these guys are all about the team and others are all about their brand.

  23. speedforcepro

Is he a huge reason why the team won a championship? Yes. Is he a player that gets himself kicked out of important games and is declining more every year? Yes.

Edit: this doesn’t even mention that he specifically struggles against the way that the league is trending.

I love dray, but it is clear that he should not be the focus of the warriors checkbook

  24. KoalaKing333

You should be tired of his antics more than his slander. He brings all this on himself.

  25. ArtfulLying

I haven’t wanted to see him in a warriors uniform for like 4 years now. I could care less what he provides. The dudes game is unbearable to watch.

  26. I_Miss_Donald

Draymond is important to our team but due to sallary reasons and his triple singles I think bob will test out his trade value. It’s that or he walks out in FA, or we match some max contract to keep him. I’d say trade him at this point

  27. fiveofnein

Draymond fulfills an absolutely vital role, he is elite at performing within the scope needed. However, I think it is short sighted to believe he is the only person in the NBA who can perform that role to the level needed to win with the rest of the GSW roster.

  28. cock-a-dooodle-do

Draymond has always been a very calculative person. He created controversy with KD when they both were due for new contracts and ran KD out.

And now in 2022, when Wiggins, Poole & Green were/are all due for extensions, he saw that soon after summer and started expressing on his podcasts that he was looking forward to a (max) extension.

Couple of months after that, he tried to verbally attack his own teammate (Jordan getting humbled) on the podcast and then shortly followed it up with actually attacking him in practice and then tried to blame it on Poole’s attitude (via Haynes tweet). Why would he suddenly have a problem with Poole’s attitude when he was praising the same thing on his podcast earlier?

Maybe he was trying to run Poole out of the team, similar to KD? Maybe he is just a very insecure person despite being a 4 time champion, HOF, DPOY and so much more. Maybe he has reached a point due to that insecurity that he has started to put his own interests over the team? If anything, he should be happily welcoming Poole, someone he mentored so much, to the foundational 6.

We have always loved Draymond for who he is but his cons have started outweighing his pros now.

It is like “forgiving your abusive father because he pays the bills.”

I do feel the draymond slander is sometimes overboard, but you have to admit he does bring it on to himself. From the lebron dick riding/klutch machine, to this latest crazy incident and his interviews with the press about being confused about “losing trust”. When coach, steph and bob said he needs to build that trust back up. I know he walks a very fine line, but hes on a 3yr volcano eruption. TBH, I don’t know most NBA teams who can recover from a punch/incident like that. Warriors just have the internal structure, players, staff and coaches to rise above.

Also think that Draymond is most valuable to the warriors and the warriors is most valuable to Draymond. We hide his inefficiencies really well, and he does the same for the team!
